I agree with this soooo much. Degree mill customers are going to find sources with or without our unintended help. But by putting the names, links, etc. out here, we can criticize them fully, allowing those people who are sincerely seeking nontraditional higher education a chance to avoid these pitfalls.

On the other hand, I remember when Bear stopped including degree mill contact information in his guides. I agree with that because the books are static. But this environment is not, and additional discovery and commentary can be generated as necessary.

I agree with removing links to obvious phonies, and I agree that people who want these things will inevitably find them. I am reminded of the books Paladin Press sells, one of my favorites of the genre being "How Dishonest People Rig Their Electric Meters to Cheat the Power Companies." Sure you might be able to figure these things out on your own, but . . .

And I think we should make clear to anyone coming to this forum that the moderators and others will always cooperate with bona fide law enforcement, media, HR people, and academics who need or wish to know more.

I stress "bona fide" because I've had more than a few inquiries from people purporting to be in one of those four categories who turned out to be lying, and often the phonies themselves checking up on what I had to say about them.

Now when I get a call or Email, if I have any doubt, I will call directory assistance and get the phone number on my own, rather than calling the number I'm given. (My recent favorite of this kind of thing was the Email I got from "[email protected]." Yeah, sure.)

    What????

I am confused - are we missing something?
What is the name of the school?

Sorry, Chris. Classified information. Strictly 'need to know'. Only people with "G-6" clearances have access. Loose lips sink ships.

But if you want to do a little espionage, then act fast. Check out Lowell Kintzer's post above. The answer's still there, for the next few minutes at least.

I agree! Non-substantive schools will quickly be examined and dissected on this forum. When the smoke settles the serious DL student will have solid information to make an informed decision.

Russell (and everyone else), this particular entity was deleted for very specific reasons. One of which was that it isn't a school by even the most liberal definition, it's simply a service that sells degrees.

Questionable schools (such as one posted here recently) are certainly good fodder for debate. I think you'll all agree we haven't edited those in the past, and we have no plans to do so in the future.

Indeed. And I think the moderators/administrators are to be commended for keeping DegreeInfo a substantive forum.
