There are, of course, two ways to address this - which I'll do only briefly so we don't get too far off topic.

First, remember that prison, like the military or a theological seminary to some degree, is a haven for "gay situational sex." Otherwise straight guys will do it with other guys simply because there are no women around. They may rack up numbers with other guys (there's a pun in that somewhere), but will revert to being straight once released. Second, and this comes under the heading of a however, remember that in most states prisoners on death row are kept in isolation - single cells with minimal opportunity, if any, for physical contact with other prisoners. Therefore, it is plausible that their only sexual outlet over many years is to take things into their own hands. So to speak.

Back on topic, however, I can't help thinking that there are many conservatives here whose heads are up their asses on this issue. Really, this is starting to read like a Bush vs. Kerry discussion - lots of emotion, with people trying to shove their views down others' throats.

Ministering, for lack of a better term, to those on death row may not be your issue, but it is someone's issue. You don't have to shove a right-wing agenda down their throats any more than they should shove a left-wing agenda down yours. (And I'm not even sure that we're talking about the respective wings here, since some conservative institutions, notably the Catholic Church, are against the death penalty.)

Sympathy will always be with the victims, but there is no reason that some people cannot step aside to offer solace to the perpetrator. Stop being so fucking judgmental of each other already.

Oh, for homework for both sides of this debate, get thee to thy local video store and rent Dead Man Walking. Then y'all can pontificate, but you still need to lighten up, folks.

Now, can we get back to the sex jokes?

Well this is the off topic forum. So it means that we can talk about other things in life other then distance learning. Sex is a very natural thing and one of the greatest joys in life. So I hate to break it to you but there is a lot more to life then just distance learning.

I disagree with that. Let me tell you a story. About 3 years ago I met a guy from Germany in a chat room we started chatting then we exchanged a few pics. When I said that I had to get off now he said that he would really like to keep in touch with me and I said "sure" and told him to email me. So the next day I got an email from him and we started chatting through email. Soon we started to email each other 4-6 times per day. I actually found myself starting to develop feelings and emotions for this guy just from the email's he was sending me. I never had anything like this happen before and I thought it was kind of strange and I told him about this. He told he that he was really glad that I brought this up because he was having the same feeling. So after talking through email for about 7 months he told me that he is coming to Toronto for a few weeks to meet me in person. I was a bit worried because I thought that maybe we will not click in real life and I was really liking him a lot and could not stop myself for developing very strong feelings for him. When he finally arrived in Toronto I felt like I have just been reunited with a long term boyfriend that came back from a long trip. We clicked right away. I'm a person that has a lot of self control with guys no matter how good looking and amazing the guy is. However when we arrived at his hotel room at the end of our first date all I could think of was how much I wanted this guy to make love to me. So I ended up walking up towards him kissing him on the lips and slowly undressing him. Now I should let you know that I am not the type to sleep with the guy on the first date. However when we were making love no men has every felt so right inside me. It was like our bodies and spirits had melted tougher and we had become one. It's hard to explain in words but I hope you understand what I am talking about. We actually ended up spending three whole weeks not leaving his hotel room. The whole time we never watched any tv or anything like that. We would just talk, kiss, cuddle, make love, take romantic bubble baths tougher and order room service and have romantic meals. We ended up being in a relationship for a year where the both of us were traveling back and forth between Germany and Canada. However after doing this for a year we came to a conclusion that we can not be doing all this travel for the rest of our lives and that one of us will have to relocate. So we decided it would be best if we cooled it down and maybe see other people. He comes from a family that is very well off and even made a promise to me that is if move to Germany I will have everything I need and want without having to work a day in my life, and I could tell by the look in his eyes that he really meant it. However I'm the kind of person where I need to always be going something or else I start getting depressed. So right now I am dating other guys, but he still has special place in my heart. We still email each other and he is still trying to get to move to Germany, so who knows what's going to happen. Maybe someday I will pack my bags for good and buy a one way ticket to Germany.

You would think that with all the homosexual activity that goes on in the military and seminary. That the military would welcome homosexuals and that the church would accept gay same sex marriage. I find it really amusing how the Catholic church is probably one of the strongest anti gay marriage churches, but from what I hear in the news it's the catholic church were most of the homosexual activity goes on.

Because we have a number of sub-humans (I'll throw out John Wayne Gacy & Ted Bundy as poster boys) that commit acts so heinous that they have forfeited their right to live among us.

Just for the record, I am strongly in favor of a bifurcated trial in murder cases. In a bifurcated trial, there are two phases.....guilt and penalty. A jury of 12 people not only has to decide guilt or innocence, but also has to decide the punishment in a seperate trial, be it death or life imprisonment. I will live with the result.

Jack, a simple "Yes" or "No" would not and does not break confidentiality.

I have said on here many times I have worked with addicted populations, for instance, and that's not a breach of confidentiality.

Oh well, you said you were tired, ha!

I hope you do finish your dissertation. I think it would be very interesting and add to the field.

Hope you got plenty of rest.

I know this. I was just using this word in an attempt to be funny. I should stop trying to be funny as I am obviously not good at it.

I have to agree. Only God has the right to decide who lives and who doesn't.

"Why do we kill people to show people that killing people is wrong?"

Thanks Jimmy. Our theology is probably poles apart, but at least we can agree on this.

When people ask me if I believe in the death penalty I respond with this: Are we talking about my son or yours? There is always a pregnant pause.

    Would Jesus

    1. Pull the trigger?

    2. Trip the platform lever?

    3. Inject the lethal dose?

    4. Pull the lever to drop the gas pellets?

    4. Pull the switch?

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say "Satan," I meant to say "Jesus."

    Silly me!

Jimmy - Because the topic under discussion had absolutely nothing to do with folie a deux I assumed you were joking. I have done no research on this topic but I'm quite confident that true occurrences of this phenomenon are extremely rare. It's not even a real diagnosis. Why would this even come into your thoughts during this thread?

When I used the word "psychotics" I immediately thought of Shared Psychotic D/O because I worked with a therapist who had a case about ten years ago.

I have not known anyone who worked with this D/O nor have I read anything about in many years and I was just curious if you had, that's all.

I am not sure what you mean about it not being a "real dx," as it is 297.3 (as well as a differential) unless you are perhaps refering to it being a delusion??????????

Of course the psychotic d/o's are not my specialty as I worked more with addictions, moood d/o's, and personality d/o's.

    Get some rest.

Dennis the theologian got it right. Jesus said "render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's." Paul explains in Romans that the state wields the sword at God's appointment. It seems unlikely that Jesus should say one thing and the Holy Spirit inspire Paul to say quite another, given the unity of the Godhead. There is no evidence in any of Jesus' various admonitions to those with capital authority that he objected to the death penalty per se. Nor is there any evidence in the Tanakh (OT) that the death penalty is forbidden by God. Quite the opposite. There may be perfectly good prudential or philosophical reasons to oppose the death penalty (Jeff's issue of wrongful conviction being likely the best); Christ had quite heavy enough of a cross to carry without adding sentimental, antitextual, unbiblical postulates to his burden.

I would not care to see my state restore the death penalty. I did not mind at all that other states I lived in had it.

Because it sends a message that if you murder someone, your ticket will also be punched.

No pause for me. If my son committed a murder with any of the circumstances required for the death penalty (premeditation, extreme cruelty, or in the commission of a felony), I would think he deserved the ultimate punishment (that's not to say I wouldn't be devastated).

  20. Execution costs far more than life

Because of our appeal system, those who committed horrible crimes get multiple appeals before an execution can be carried out. In California, this may take 20 years. From a purely economic standpoint, I am opposed to the death penalty because the accused get too many days in court while their victims get none.

I think the original poster is making a huge mistake by corresponding with an inmate. Many women have been conned by these professional liars and lost everything. Why would you put your safety and that of your loved ones in jeopardy. If you need to feel sorry for someone, why not the victims' families. You could write to them.
