Yeah, I received one of those too.

I got a similar questionaire at the time I graduated, but haven't seen any since. The cover letter says "you have been selected", so maybe they were sent to a random sample of graduates or something. So there may have been other surveys that didn't include me in the sample.

I enjoyed it too. The content certainly doesn't seem dated. The correspondence-based delivery probably is, though that's one of the things that allows them to keep the cost low. Interactivity is an area where they could conceivably improve things.

HUX is self-funded, to my knowledge it doesn't receive state-funds... at least directly. It does use university office space, employs student work-study clerical staff, etc. So HUX might actually be in a fairly secure place, given California's budget turmoil and CSU funding cutbacks.

If HUX is experiencing any funding stress, it would probably be because enrollments are down. Maybe that's the case because of the economic situation. But given how inexpensive this thing is (both to students and to the state) and the lack of competitors in its space, it's hard to think that it wouldn't attract sufficient students.

The survey probably represents the current management's efforts to take stock of where it's at and how well it's really serving its students' needs.

I think the main reason the HUX program exists is for school teachers that get a pay raise for earning a masters degree. As mentioned above, it's very difficult to land a college teaching job with a MA in Humanities and there aren't many careers that require a degree in this field.
