So UMass loses to James Madison, 52-38. Not exactly a defensive battle. In their conference UMass was ranked #3 and James Madison #7. I expect that has changed significantly for both teams.

Well this weekend's college football turned out as I guessed. You gotta hand it to SC though, they put up a pretty good fight against Georgia.

A few decades ago when I was more into hanging out at bars, the USC fans used to come up to the Bay Area each year for games with Stanford and Berkeley. And before and after the games, they would inevitably hit San Francisco. I guess that most of them were fraternity and sorority kids or something, but each and every one looked like a movie star or a buxom starlet. I don't think that USC admissions even considers applicants who aren't unusually attractive. These kids were all expensively and eye-catchingly dressed and drove ostentatious cars to match.

It's an LA thing, I guess.

And the horrible part was that they all had attitudes to match. They were arrogant and obnoxious as all hell and after they had a few drinks in them they used to pile into the street and block traffic. The SF cops hated it, having to deal with drunk rich-kids who would inevitably threaten that their powerful fathers would have the cops on the carpet and take their jobs if the cops even thought about busting them for disorderly conduct or DUI.

I have to admit that I still have a pretty dim view of the University of Southern California after seeing that scene repeat year after year. Judging from the fraternities and sororities at least, the familiar jibe about USC being the "University of Spoiled Children" seems true and apt.

(USC does have a dynamite football team though.)

You should hear some of the stories the Cambridge PD has about Harvard students. :D

Personally I'd put USC against LSU, Georgia or Florida right now and I'd give odds the SEC team, any of those three would stomp USC's pretty boy, preppy, behinds...

UMass had experienced with local football teams.
They are ranked top but they didn't play quite well.
I am eagerly waiting to see the match.

LSU beat Auburn in Auburn. That hasn't been done in quite some time. This LSU team is showing some flashes of brilliance but they still have to face Florida in Florida.

The #1 ranked, crap talking, entitlement team in the country though, USC doesn't play one other single ranked team for the entire season. The SEC teams each play between 4 and 5 top ranked teams before the season is complete. This is why when an SEC team does end up facing USC it will be a bloodbath.

USC got punk'd by the might Oregon State Beavers.....

So much for all their crap talking about SEC teams in the top 10. They're not worthy. No really.

Right now UMass is tied with Delaware (7 - 7) in the third quarter. Not good.

Then it's Northeastern, Richmond, Bryant, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hamster, and ending the season with Hofstra.

College football is American football played by teams of student athletes fielded by American universities, colleges, and military academies. It was the venue through which American football first gained popularity in the United States. College football remains extremely popular today among students, alumni, and other fans of the sport.

In the first post in this thread, friendorfoe predicted, "Another SEC BCS championship win...."

Yeah, sure, but who would have thought it would be Vanderbilt?!?!

Go Commodores! (My wife's doctoral alma mater.)

I'm pulling for Vandy, the SEC's whipping boys. But don't get too excited yet, they stil have GA, FL and TN still to go. If they DO make it to the SEC championship game it's likely they'll face either LSU or AL, neither of which will be an easy "W" on the schedule.

I'm thinking that if LSU beats FL, then whoever wins between AL and LSU will be the next BCS champs.

Go UF! UF is leading LSU @ 20-14 5 minutes left in the 3rd.

In other news, OU lost to Texas in one of the best games in the Red River Rivalry, 45-35.

If OSU can hold out against Mizzou (28-17 with 6:30 left in the 4th), it is going to be another big week of change at the top of the rankings.

    UF dominates LSU, 51 to 21. :)

OSU wins against Mizzou, 28 to 23.

    Way to go!

Sadly LSU got stomped. I predict UF being the next BCS champs though. When they get going nothing can stop 'em. I think Alabama is going to get knocked out by LSU. That's the SEC for you.

I'm pretty much for any playoff system. Anything's better than the current system.
