    Right, it doesn't. But this article deals with possible causes, in detail. Not surprising that there are likely multiple factors - not just one cause. https://www.wcax.com/2022/10/20/behind-bullets-part-1/

    I believe there's also a followup article from the same source. Their take sounds reasonable to me - convergence of multiple factors. I don't think Burlington, Vermont is alone in this.

    It's only five homicides! With such a small number being such a large percentage increase indicates to me very likely that it could just be a very minor statistical anomaly. The source is Fox News so it needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

    Bill, the article I cited honed in on gunfire. There were 25 such incidents last year out of a total of 64 since 2012. That's definitely a major uptick. Thankfully, not every gunfire incident resulted in someone dying. And you are of course, right about Fox News. Maybe we could get Elon Musk to buy it and straighten things out. :)

    That, and people weren't out and about in 2020 and 2021 they they've been this year, so one might expect pent up scores to have been settled.
