This week's best song ever is:

Ahhh, Sam Cooke. One of my favorites. If it wasn't for the internet, a guy my age probably would have never even known that he existed. Good news: I can triumphantly say that I finally have "It's Tricky" out of my head. For now, anyway! :saevil:

What is your best song ever of the week?

I pushed this in a death penalty discussion on degreediscussion last year. With a death penalty thread here now, forgive my doing so again? Best song ever about the plight of the wrongfully convicted.

Taking a trip down memory lane, I have been reflecting on the most charmingly demonic cartoon from my childhood. This week's best song ever is the theme song to David the Gnome.

Such a sad song to dance as happily as I do to it. Bust this out during any karaoke party, and you will no doubt be the most memorable act. Because you will suck at it. Horribly. Is there any person in the entire world who can sing this song as well as the man Jackie Wilson, himself? Doubtful. The sad ending to Jackie Wilson's story is that, amazingly, he died while singing this song. The amazing part is that he suffered a heart attack and collapsed on stage while singing the line "My heart is cryin', cryin'!!!" This is not a video of that event :)

Since I subjected the masses to a bout of death metal, allow me to make it up to you by giving you TWO best songs for this week. One from each of the first two albums I ever owned.

    You could say that again!

    And you did. :)

For Maniac, being in a 90s-rock place, here are two excellent songs made since 2000 about 90s rock nostalgia:

I love the bass line on this song. This is the soul that is missing from mainstream radio these days.

Some songs actually sound better with age, as everything I've posted in this thread so far shows. I love this song and I can't help but say of both it and the video that accompanies: they don't make them like they used to. Man, I can't believe this song is that old.

Yeah, I heard that song on the radio a couple of years ago and decided to make it a regular on my mp3 player. Sometimes, I have to be reminded of the really good old school songs. Sometimes, I end up liking old songs now that I didn't like before when my musical tastes were more immature.

I can't think of a good way to describe Robbie Williams, other than to say "lol, what a weirdo." However, there is some sort of creative genius behind all of that weirdness. They clearly go hand and hand. Proof?

Michael Jackson gets often gets credit for turning the music video from a cheap promotional tool to a blockbuster creative experience. I give Robbie Williams credit for reminding us that it still can be, sometimes.
