Dare I suggest Photoshop or InDesign to fix spacing? Is that technically legal? I mean, the certificate was awarded so...

I've had auto-generated certificates come out like that before. The solution was to try opening it in different programs until it looked right in one of them, then print that version to PDF. It may, or of course may not, work in this case. Sometimes it's some quirk with how the software reads it.

    I'd do this.

So would I, in a hot second. I even thought about improving the colour scheme of my Fashion Design diploma. :) But I settled for $200 worth of (my choice) custom pink and pale aqua framing. It ROCKS! De façon absolument parisienne! :)

But there's this, from QUORA - and it seems to make sense. Something to consider - or investigate further:

"under general law no governmental documentation or any private document which is not prepared by you not it has been signed by you can be altered without the partition of the person who has made the document."

(I assume the "partition" should be "permission" - J.)

I think it's sort of the thing that is technically academic dishonesty (as altering any official document would be) but it's so immaterial as to be a non-issue.

If I were on University staff, I sure wouldn't want to take any action against someone who altered the spacing -even if it wasn't strictly legal. I do NOT think that action would go well, or look good for the school. I'd think maybe the best shot would be to alter the spacing on ALL future certificates - so grads don't have to. Just my take.

Why not just reach out to the school and ask them if they can reset it?

This is the answer. There is obviously an issue, if that is representative of what they are delivering, and I think that ASU doesn’t desire to create a situation where everyone has the choice to modify the certificate or live with a product with errors.

Yes - they (ASU) could improve the certificate. But there are far worse. I received a Udemy cert a week or so ago - looked more like an invoice for a textbook. Yes - the course was cheap, but ... yikes. On the other hand, Alison certificates look pretty darn good - and the course cost was low. VERY wide variance, in certificate appearance at the low-cost end. Course content? Can vary widely from course to course with the same supplier, I find.

In the end, is the certificate for a non-credit course really that important? I could somewhat understand the concern if this were a certification that could lead to a job or a diploma a graduate wants to hang on a wall. Regardless, there are now eldctronic ways to verify the validity of a completed course or earned certification; any certificate can be fabricated or modified.

IMO, what's important is what they're aiming to issue at the finish line- a bona fide graduate certificate worth 15 credits. Yes, I'd want that certificate to look official because that one would definitely go on my wall. The interim professional development certificates don't matter as much. Otherwise, they're all just lines on a resumé, if even that

Oops. Misread that! Thought at first you said "all just lies on a resumé."

Is there a time limit to complete a course once you register?

I recall it being 6 months.

I think that is a suggested time period. I am nearing one year, and the course is still open for me. I set it aside to work on other courses.

Has anyone figured out if they close or reset the courses after a period of time?

They do not. I’ve been working on mine periodically since it started. Although, they did update the bootcamp.
