who make a living trying to get students into the right degree program and give them advice on how to cut costs and expedite their degrees via test outs, past credits, portfolio assessment and other applicable legal means? For what I can make out if a student is guided properly he can cut down a few thousand dollars and also can obtain a degree a bit faster than the normal time it takes and yet people opt for traditional brick and mortar class room 4 loooooooong years degrees that I thought there sure is a market for private educational councilors.

It's not a stupid question. I think they exist, I just don't know of any. Have you tried a simple google search?

This would be a great find if there really are any that are really knowledgeable, up-to-date, and don't charge a bazillion dollars.

The only one I personally know of with any credibility is Peter Proell's consulting service (a business he bought from John Bear probably 20 years ago). He is pretty detailed in what he gives you, but I remember at the time (probably 10 years ago) he didn't seem very knowledgeable about the differences between COSC, TESC and Excelsior and, particularly, differences in their alternative credit granting, which was one of the main reasons I had sought his counsel.

We (degreeinfo) had talked about offering such a service and one of our partners (now a former partner) was going to help coordinate that, but it's not yet come to fruition.

I know of several people who *claim* to offer the service, but haven't heard anyone speak (good or bad) of working with them, so am a little skeptical.
