Are there any APA approved masters degrees in clinical psychology ( or counseling) ???? Or at least APA approved where the DL school is located?

I believe that I am correct when I say that the APA does not approve Masters degree programs, only Doctoral programs.

I was of the impression that APA only accredited doctorates. But I could be wrong.

    APA MA DL AND

While I am on it, would these APA approved schools not ALSO be nationally accredited as well?

That is a LOT to ask I know.

If you're looking for an MA in Counseling, you might look for accreditation/approval by CACREP.

    Re: APA MA DL AND

Accreditation/approval by the American Psychological Association would be considered professional accreditation, which is good.

    APA Ph.D. Psy.D.

Then what about a DL school with an APA Ph.D. / Psy.D. in psychology (clinical/counseling) approval?

Ok - Let me ask another possible hard and stupid question to those who have been around for some time.

Is there a MA in clinical Psychology - DL - that is nationally accredited?

You can look at the DETC website for your answer.

    Zoyd

Thanks a lot. These help and I am exploring them now.

    One question though.

SInce the APA does not approve MA programs, does it really matter where I get my MA from? Especially if I go on and get a Ph.D. / Psy.D later that IS accredited?

I do not believe that I am the best one to answer your question as Psychology is not my area. However, one question that might require an answer, regardless of your field, is whether a DETC Masters will be seen as sufficient admissions criteria for a regionally accredited Doctoral program. It may be, I just don't know.

I believe that some of Argosy' psychology programs (clinical and/or counseling) are either APA or CACREP approved.

    Re: Zoyd

The PsyD is usually about 90 semester hours (135 quarter hours) beyond the bachelor's, and an MA in Psych issues along the way at 30 sh/45 qh, thereby qualifying holder of said degree to get an internship before PsyD graduation. For the PhD in Psychology, that is usually 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) beyond the master's, which itself is 30 sh/45 qh beyond the bachelor's, though there are some PhD Psychology programs that allow direct admission to the doctorate. You should still look for your master's-granting school to have some form of legitimate accreditation so that that won't become a big issue when you start looking for a doctoral program.

    APA/ CACREP MA DL

    Thanks for the posts-

Dr Rene - I found Argosy in the process of searching. I live near one of their local schools. I LOVE the delievery system. Online AND local through the US. I am seriously looking at this one- specifically the MA Psych Clinical. They are NOT APA or even CACREP at the this point in the Masters ( if the APA does accredit MA degrees which I am learning they do not). They are APA at the Doc level. They are nationally accredited.

    Ted Heiks-

The other one I am looking at is the Capella. Their Marriage & Family and their Mental Health MA's - in counseling - are CACREP approved ( SUPER thanks for heads up on this accrediting agency). The only ones of their kind. I also picked up University of West Alabama, but their program seems less organized than the others. It IS cheaper
    :) .

I still have not decided but am a lot more focused.

Argosy is regionally accredited (Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association) and, as you have stated, some campuses are professionally accredited (APA or CACREP).
