Hi Everyone I am new to the website. I wonder if anyone can help me. I am Canadian and I have about 90 credits to transfer. I want to get a BA quick but I need to get from a University because in Canada, I find every place I want to apply for a job wants a university degree for employment. That why I have not completed a degree from the big 3 because everyone in Canada thinks if it says college it's a degree from a community college. Stupid but it's the truth. So I fear I will not get the job opportunities I deserve. Plus I like the prestige of saying of I have a degree from a University. Is there any "university" that offers testing out or getting a degree quickly? I have already taken 2 graduate courses at Harvard University Extension with A grades. I have to do one more course to be admitted but I need a bachelor degree to be admitted. I'm looking for a Liberal Arts Degree. My long term goal is to be professor in the Canada or the States. If do well in my studies I want obtain a Ph.D. Does anyone have suggestions on what should do? Thanks
Sorry for the grammer mistakes of my last post but my Internet is down and that's the best i could do with my iPhone.
Yes, pick one of the Big 3 and finish your degree. I would think you would lose out on far more opportunities not having a degree at all than you would from one that people confused as a community college. I would finish it at quick as you could and then apply to various masters programs. A masters degree would shut down any doubt about your undergraduate program.
To my knowledge Canadian community colleges don't issue a degree, but a skills-based certificate, correct? And even then, there are "colleges" within Universities - University of Western Ontario has King's College, Huron College, Brescia College, etc. You can easily educate anyone by stating that in the US there is a difference between a 2-year college and a 4-year college/university. Finally, can't you just finish up a general 3 year degree at a Canadian university? It sounds as if you're close on your credit count.
Many Canadian community colleges are now offering four-year applied degrees. If you're looking to complete an undergraduate degree from a Canadian university then I would recommend Athabasca University or Royal Roads University. Both are fine institutions. However, if your ultimate goal is to become a college or university professor, then I would suggest completing a master's degree from a B&M institution that offers a distance education option or minimal residency. The same holds true for the doctorate.
If he wants to get a Masters degree from Harvard Extension, he will need to have a four year Bachelor degree to get accepted. Harvard Extension doesn't accept a three year Bachelor degree. I have no idea why!
Thanks for the quick responses to my post. My field of study is psychology. After all your opinions, I will probably enroll in one of the big 3. A master's degree will take away all doubts. A degree is better than no degree. Love, Tv
Be very careful about this. If you are planning to work in Canada, a U.S. degree will be scrutinised if not from a "big name" school. A degree from Athabasca or Royal Roads will be immediately recognised and will certainly allow you entry into a master's program in Canada. You have to find out if the Big-3 bachelor's degrees are recognised as honours-standard degrees which are the normal requirement for research-oriented master's degrees. I don't want you discourage you, but please look into this before you dedicate a few years of your life to a degree that might not carry a lot of weight in Canada.
I will look into the two Canadian schools you mentioned. For Harvard extension master's program you only need a 4 year accredited degree, but just in case I don't finish at Harvard extension, I'll need a degree that will get me a job in Canada or master program in Canada. I looked into Athabasca but I have do some research about Royal. Thanks
