What is he (or any Governor) supposed to do if the federal government is not effectively managing the issue? At what point does the Governor have the right or obligation to intervene to protect citizens?

Engage in pointless Base thrilling grandstanding it appears. And do so at public expense.

Respectfully, that is not an answer to my question. In fact, it is meaningless and a non solution. My question remains.

Okay, how about getting your people out of the way of legitimate federal border patrol? How about encouraging your congressional delegation to support what had been a bipartisan border bill but got torpedoed in the House because The Don wants the issue to run on? There are two things for you.

Do you live anywhere near the border, Garp? I do.

Yes, although probably not in the way you intended.

The border of the USA is the responsibility of the federal government, not the state government. Abbot knows that but is just grandstanding for political points.

None of which answers what a State Governor it's supposed to do when the federal government is not fulfilling its duty or not managing the situation effectively and negatively impacting a state in terms of fiscal problems and safety issues. Does the governor not have a responsibility to the citizens of the state?

Not everyone shares that opinion. Also, it's still not his business. His beef is with Congress.

How about it, Garp? HAVE you ever crossed the land border into Mexico in your life? Or visited our accursed wall? It's quite, quite real.

"An illegal migrant who was busted while attempting to sneak across the border reportedly admitted to being a member of Hezbollah and having the intent to "make a bomb."

Basel Bassel Ebbadi, a 22-year-old Lebanese migrant, was caught sneaking across the border near El Paso, Texas, last week, telling agents who questioned him that his ultimate destination was New York and that he intended to "try to make a bomb" once safely at his destination, according to a New York Post report.

Further interviews of Ebbadi revealed that he had trained with Hezbollah for seven years and also served as an active member tasked with guarding weapons for another four years, according to the report. His training with the group was focused on "jihad" and "killing people that was not Muslim," he reportedly told investigators."

There has never been a time in our history when the border was so air-tight we would have been assured every bad person would be stopped. Never.

He's 22. That means he was recruited at age 11? Hezbollah recruiters must hang around school yards! Scary... if true.

The youth in those parts of the world get indoctrinated and trained from kindergarten age.
Hamas adopted Hezbollah playbook, after what was seen in the Islamic world, success of Hezbollah 2nd Lebanon war with Israel.

As to the border, this one was caught, how many crossed in to Us, Canada without being caught?

Anyone who understand what is Political, Jihad and all its forms (Violent, Militant, Quiet, etc.), has to understand what danger it presents to all the Democracies in the world.
These groups are here not to assimilate in to Western society, they are here to promote Islamic ideology and don't be naive about it, it poses clear and present danger to the West.
The borders like ours are impossible to seal, but it's obvious much more needed to be done.
And it will hardly be debated in this election year.
There have to be a better way to support security of out nations and humane migration policies at the same time.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/supreme-court-lifts-stay-texas-182603732.html

A divided Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed Texas to begin enforcing a law that gives police broad powers to arrest migrants suspected of crossing the border illegally while a legal battle over the measure plays out.

But Mexico’s government said Tuesday it would not "under any circumstances" accept the return of any migrants to its territory from the state of Texas. Mexico is not required to accept deportations of anyone except Mexican citizens.

Yes, they did, and the excuse is hard to swallow. If I understand it (this level of technical stuff in the federal system isn't something I know much about) the Court of Appeals lifted the trial court's stay with a memorandum order before any hearings. The Supreme Court initially reimposed the trial court's stay but the justices say that they aren’t comfortable with getting involved in the Court of Appeals process so early in the process.

Barrett did say that if the COA doesn't rule quickly the government can come back to SCROTUS and ask for the stay to be reimposed. Meanwhile a great deal of mischief will have taken place I'm sure.

I gather that the legal consensus is that SCROTUS' procedural concerns are generally legitimate but surely this is a rare and desperately important case requiring a rare and desperate exception.

I hope that you don't happen to have any cases that you're arguing in front of SCROTUM, oops I mean SCROTUS, oops I mean SCOTUS. :D

I think that's a very apt name, considering the long-term history of gender imbalance. Counsel is entitled to his soap-box. :)

But it DOES appear to be improving. (About time!) Four women justices are currently serving: Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, Amy Coney Barrett, and Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Out of 115 justices that have served on the court, only six have been women. From here: https://www.representwomen.org/women_supreme_court
