    Sept 2021 - Administration placed a “harmful content” warning on the Constitution, labeling the governing document of the United States as “harmful or difficult to view.” The warning applies to all documents across the Archives’ cataloged website, including the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence.

    Is this factual info?

    What the blocked text is referencing is this.

    quote:
    NARA’s Statement on Potentially Harmful Content
    The Catalog and web pages of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) provide access to many millions of descriptions and digital copies of the permanent records of the United States federal government.

    The Catalog and web pages contain some content that may be harmful or difficult to view. NARA’s records span the history of the United States, and it is our charge to preserve and make available these historical records. As a result, some of the materials presented here may reflect outdated, biased, offensive, and possibly violent views and opinions. In addition, some of the materials may relate to violent or graphic events and are preserved for their historical significance.

    The National Archives is committed to working with staff, communities, and peer institutions to assess and update descriptions that are harmful and to establish standards and policies to prevent future harmful language in staff-generated descriptions.

    Frequently Asked Questions
    What harmful or difficult content may be found in the National Archives Catalog and our web pages?
    Some items may:

    • reflect racist, sexist, ableist, misogynistic/misogynoir, and xenophobic opinions and attitudes;
    • be discriminatory towards or exclude diverse views on sexuality, gender, religion, and more;
    • include graphic content of historical events such as violent death, medical procedures, crime, wars/terrorist acts, natural disasters and more;
    • demonstrate bias and exclusion in institutional collecting and digitization policies.

    It goes on. what it is is a general statement about the huge National Archives database. It is misleading at least and outright lying at worst (and very stupid either way) to try to argue that they are specifically talking about the constitution as a harmful document though.

    Exactly, which means it lent itself perfectly to outrage-inducing headlines to exactly that effect on conservative clickbait media.

    I noticed there was no attribution on this garbage. Who -or what organization perpetrated this piece of fearmongering crap, anyway?

    Oh - here it is. The Federalist - Haley Strack. Now, at least we know what org - and who - is (ir)responsible. Блять! Haley, try reading for comprehension, next time.

    Haley is a Hillsdale grad. And William F. Buckley Fellow in Political Journalism. I take back the "reading for comprehension' jab. I'm sure she knows EXACTLY what she's doing. I still don't like the piece. Here's Haley:

    Okay - Haley did very well in school. And her professors and bosses all like her. You can still colour me livid.

    The Federalist is rated poorly by MediaBiasFactCheck. Based on this article though, I believe, that it is rated too high. It got the EXTREME bias correct. I'm just questioning the mixed rating for accuracy.

    A good chunk of the political right seems to have lost its grasp on reality.

    Obviously, they reward their own - helps keep up the fiction.

    The right-wing media is actually far less trustworthy. Most Republicans, at least the ones that I know, usually watch Fox or worse (Newsmax or OAN). Dems seem to get a lot of their news from ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, or MSNBC. Those are all better news sources than Fox. This is all according to MediaBiasFactCheck.com. I believe this is a big part of the reason that the right-wing has lost their grip on reality over the last few years, well that and Donald Trump.

    Right. But they sure have a grip on unreality. NRA-style: They're "not letting go until you pry our cold, dead fingers from around it." :)

    Well...yeah...the 1789 Constitution doesn't use the actual word "slavery" but it's there nevertheless and it wouldn't hurt white Americans to know that...
