Actually, I didn't take what you said earlier in the thread as being mean spirited. I didn't take Edowave's as being mean spirited either but some of the others were really downright out of place and I take offense to them.

I am from a Commonwealth country and you are correct, we do take B.Sc to mean the same as B.S. I do also have a bachelors degree from Barry and if anyone remembers, many of you in this group, directed me towards that program, and the masters degree that I earned from CUP. Which is why I came here for help again.

The funny thing about all of this is that it is those that didn't have anything to lend to my degree finding frustrations that have the most negative remarks to give.

LadyExecutive is just a name I used to post. Nothing more.

Abner didn't say he agreed with my points, he said they were good points. He is entitled to his opinions or do you grade for opinions as well?

Irregardless of whether you are in the process of earning or are a doctoral student, a doctoral candidate, a Ph.D., an Ed.D, some other 2/3-letter combination, or are just in need of a good laugh, you should enjoy the Best Super Bowl 2007 Commercials.

    Sorry Edo and Steve

In earlier posts, I got your names wrong. Before I am sanctioned for it, by others, I want to both acknowledge and apologize for the errors. God knows, I'll do anything not to insite another debate. Sorry Guys...

You're right - those were funny. Did you see the Infiniti commercial? Neat wasn't it? My husband thinks there was nothing unique about it, but I think it was different and have lots of respect for the advertising company that came up with it.

    Thanks, stay warm!

I've heard back about Argosy/Sarasota Dissertation and Comp. Exams. I'm cutting and pasting below:

    Shay:

I am sorry if I confused you when we spoke about the dissertation. Yes, dissertation is mandatory in any of the doctorate programs. What I meant to explain to you was that you will earn 12 credits towards dissertation. Regarding the Comps, you should send an email to your advisor: Dr. Celia Edmundson to discuss whether or not you could opt out. What I told you was that it has been done before on a case by case basis.

If you have any other questions, please call or email.

You are correct. A B.S. and a B.Sc. are both abbreviations for Bachelor of Science. However, the specific abbreviations are used in different parts of the world. B.S. is the primary designation in the U.S. Outsidte of the States, B.Sc. is often used. The same typically applies to M.S. and M.Sc.

Since this is a U.S.-based website, you are a U.S. resident, and most of the people using this site are Americans, the use of B.S. and M.S. are generally more acceptable than the abbreviations you use.

    It's a big planet, people

In other words, Americans are more comfortable than the rest of the word identifying with "B.S."

But seriously, I object to the idea that people should conform to American standards on DegreeInfo. This forum is far more internationally minded than most distance learning resources. In fact, I'm considering South African universities for doctoral work mostly because of what I've learned on this site -- both from Americans and from the many others from elsewhere who post here.

(And Shay, thanks for the kind words. It's a shame your good intentions went so awry.)

    Shay,

How can you respect an ADVERTISING company??? What is WRONG with you???!!! Haha, just kidding. I'm trying to break the ice on this very chilly thread.

Congrats again on your matriculation to Argosy/Sarasota.

You'd have to be an old-timer (going back to a.e.d. days) to get that joke.

I think this thread has about run its useful course......

Shay lives in the U.S. Most of her college degrees were attained from U.S. colleges. Presumably, she either works in the U.S. or plans to work in the U.S. She apparently did not know how degrees are abbreviated in the U.S. Because of all this, it benefits her to know the differences in abbreviations around the world.

Shay - What was a typical course like in the Legal Studies program? How much interaction did you have with the professors and other students? Did you take tests, write papers, or a mix of both?

No problem Shay! Don't lose heart, there are still people here who want to promote the betterment of one another. Having said that, there are a few who merely like to be pompous asses. Don't get me wrong, there is a way of pointing things out to someone in a respectable manner, and there is the way of doing it by being condescending and malicious. Don't let the PA's get you down! :) Please continue to post here.

And on that positive note, I will conclude my remarks as I have a propensity towards verbosity. :)

Lady Executive, don't forget to brush your teeth in the morning. Also, make sure you take your vitamins on a daily basis. Remember to pay your bills on time and look both ways before crossing the street. :D

No problem about the name confusion. Happens to me all the time.

Another not-so-well-known rule is that some universities have a minimum time after your comps that you have to wait until you can graduate, even if you have the dissertation and everything else completed. At UF for example, this is two terms. (and yes, you have to pay for research hours during that time!) I've known students who thought they were done told they have to pay for another 2 or 3 research hours and wait another semester before they graduate. This is especially bad when a job offer is contingent upon graduating!

Moral of the story: Know your university and department's graduation requirements backwards and forwards. Also, get your comps out of the way as soon as possible. A rule of thumb is when your coursework is about 80% complete.

Airtorn: I had such a fantastic time at CUP. I can never say enough about Dr. Nemeth and the Legal Studies program. That program was TOGETHER!! The Legal Studies courses were not difficult, at all. Quite a bit of writing, lots of discussion, they used Blackboard, so the professor would post a question to the group at the beginning of the week. By the time the weekended, you would have to have either posed a question or responded to someone else's question at least twice. No one had a difficult time doing that because the discussions were exciting and included true to life situations. There was a lot of law, more than anything thing. We had to draft documents, but we were provided with samples to follow. Honestly, from the time I began studying, the Legal Studies program and CUP were my best experiences. A typical test consisted of answering three short essay questions out of seven. Sometime, we were asked to provide and respond to our own senerios. What I like about the program is that we were encouraged to place our spin (how we personally felt) about a current issue in the news.

Had a ball. Are you thinking of enrolling? If you are, let me know, I kept all of my books, I'll send them to you.

It is on the very short list of things to think about academically after the current program. I have zero interest in a doctorate and will have about 18 months of GI Bill use left when done with the current program. We will see.

Oh OK, Keep me posted then. If you attend CUP, you'll have a great time with your studies. All the best!
