If one chooses to be an adjunct as their main source of income, they need to first remember that, by the very definition of the word, adjunct faculty are a supplement to regular full-time faculty; a reserve or auxiliary, so to say. It was intended to be an avocation, not a vocation. That's the just the reality, I'm not saying it's fair or just. I wanted to be a Navy or Air Force fighter pilot, but I'm too tall and my uncorrected eyesight is horrendous, so I accepted that reality and moved on. Next thing I knew, I was in the Army, but that's another story.
Tenure track faculty does largely the same work as the adjunct under better conditions and gets 5-10 times the pay, they get benefits and a pension. I'd say they are not the adjunct's friend.
Collective bargaining is a joke. Getting rid of tenure would permit a more equitable distribution of the limited benefits available. The way I see it, tenured faculty prosper on the back's of adjuncts.
