I'm not sure. Isn't he the Governing Twit who vowed to have police chase and arrest people going out-of-state for abortions, after the Supreme Court hammer came down? That's definitely NOT a sign of mental stability. Insanity, moronicity, or the combo - Trumpville.

Abbott was in government since 1990ies (as a judge, then Attorney General, then Governor). Insane antics are relatively new. So either he's a high functioning crazy person who feels that NOW is the time to act up, OR a sane sociopath who feels acting all crazy means success in GOPnik politics. I really suspect it's the latter; he's more of a Lindsey Graham than late-onset MTG. Either way, it gives a good idea what the GOPnik party is all about.
My life journey: Ford Nation to Abbottabad to DeSanctimonia. Perfect.

First, I haven't read yet anything on anyone's immigration status.

Second, how is that relevant at all?

Third, if the killer is an undocumented alien, why is he in possession of an assault rifle?

    Texas law enforcement loses. Again.

Yes, I'd like to nominate Stanislav's post as Post-of-the-week for those two lines.

I'm still stuck here in Ford Nation -- but I'm not a card-carrying member. Not a Fordicator.

Perhaps a term you don't like but he announced $50,000 dollar reward for capturing the "criminal" responsible and extended condolences to the family and loved ones of victims.

The use of the term illegal probably reflects the political side of the issue and isn't considered PC but hardly "insane".
    That fainting hyperbole is silly.

By the way, the Supreme Court did not "bring the hammer down on abortion". It didn't ban abortion. It ruled on the legal issue (constitutional) and ruled it belonged in the States (who have authority over certain things). Everytime someone over reacts to Supreme court decisions and political issues there are repeatedly cases where for instance a conservative Justice will rule against a conservative issue or case. Why? Because they interpret law.

I lived in Etobicoke Centre riding. Capital of Ford Nation. Obviously didn't vote for any of these people, but must admit I preferred Ted Opitz to Borys Wrzesnewskyj and Kinga Surma to Yvan Baker. I just met both Ukrainian-Canadian leaders and hate their respective two-faced guts. Voted third party both times.

Only once, I would like to see an official tweeting "$50,000 reward for a White Christian heterosexual male suspected of mass murder".

I do not believe you are really not getting it, Garp.

At least one, possibly more, were legal US residents. Relatives of at least one of the victims has posted a picture of her permanent residency card online as proof.

Don't you know that illegal aliens aren't people? Legal people who were born outside of the US, such as our Stanislav, are probably illegal in some way anyway, and aren't people either. Only red-blooded pale-skinned British-descended Americans whose family have been in the US for at least 3 generations are real people. Better still if at least some of your ancestors married their cousins to keep the family line pure.

    Duh.

No background checks for private person-to-person gun sales in Texas, apparently.

I'm glad you are entertained. It doesn't make fascist Abbott's twit any less fascist.

As far as gun ownership goes, New Mexico makes Texas look tight and always has. For the 40 years I've lived here, open carry with no permits has been state law and local government is constitutionally prohibited from enacting any regulations on the subject. A few years ago we added a permitted concealed carry law.

As to Governor Abbott, he's just very Texan. Democrats have been saying that Texas will go purple for years now but it's a fantasy. Texas is growing fast mostly through migration from other states. Those folks wouldn't move there in such numbers unless they like the culture.

Virginia is similar. In the DC suburbs I've only very rarely seen people open carry, but they can if they want to.

I like no-carry, except police, Brinks guards etc. We have that here. Saves a lot of lives, I think. Our murder rates reflect that. Big-time.

I do. I came from one country that had the same policy - to another. And looking at the stats - I'd say it works - better.

Tell folks -- they don't NEED so may guns. The British are NOT coming back! They had enough the first time! Ask King Charles, or PM Rishi Sunak!

Your "right to bear arms" in the Constitution was written about 80 years after the Salem Witch Trials and at a time when the new America's most popular import was probably boatloads of captured Africans. Conditions change. So should laws.

"Na condition wey make crayfish bend." - Nigerian proverb.
