Well, my first thought when reading this was something like, "Wow, what a great contest. I could maybe win that! Then my mind starting churning what ridiculous thing I could do."

Then Johann throws out a few potential nominees. My thought then was. "That sounds like more work than it's worth. I give up." :D

You also saved yourself a LOT of money, Bill. "Schools" like Ballsbridge U. - home of the Ballsbridge Qualification Framework, and African Moon University are not cheap. Congratulations. Buy yourself something nice. Maybe a good watch or a guitar. I now have eight of each and that's plenty. And I feel they're way more satisfying than sixteen doctorates. Total cost for all sixteen items: About two thirds of ONE Costaraguan Doctorate - those are about $5,000, I hear. :) They tell time and make music. Can a Doctoral Diploma do that? :)

I'm gonna blow my horn a little more here, at the risk of seeming ridiculous - because I no longer care. :)

I have nothing against diplomas - and the watches and guitars left me enough money for my Fashion Design diploma. I was so proud of that career-school wall-hanger, you'd almost think it WAS a doctorate. Really proud, because I put in a lot of extra effort, outside reading etc. to make that course work. And it did.

So, as my reward, I spent $220+ framing it. In two of MY favourite colours. Pink and aqua. Light shades. The best is worth it! :)

I wasn't thinking of sending any frauds actual real money. It would be a bogus degree contest after all. I could just claim degrees that I never paid for. But listing 100's of degrees sounds like it would be more work than it was worth. Claiming 2000 degrees from unnamed schools might be easier but then if that worked someone else could just say 2,000,000 degrees from unnamed schools. So it is just all too silly to even care about. :p

So, treat yourself anyway, for realizing how silly it is. Go ahead - enjoy! :)

    Why is that ridiculous, Johann?

Bill, you could just print up fake diplomas from all the fake schools.

Well, I have quite a history with framing pictures, being able to afford it - and then, not. In my working years, I really wanted to collect some nice pictures - and I did. I also had a few of my own photos enlarged and framed. I still have most of what I collected then, including quite a few from First Nations artists. My walls are well-filled and my sons say the collection looks better than ever, these days. I had a lot of pictures put away - then hung everything as a 'pandemic project.'

In the years after I retired, my money dwindled down and I couldn't afford a lot of things -- picture framing was the first to go. I managed to start turning things around at 65, at which point I was flat broke. And I have all that retirement money back, now., so I can afford the occasional "extravagance." I find being poor once sets psychological "red lights" on, when it comes to spending on non-essentials - or what most people view as non-essentials/ The "red lights" I kicked in when I had my diploma framed.

I'm used to that "red light" feeling. I don't think it's ever going to leave. The most mind-boggling example was maybe a year after starting my financial recovery. I had a few thousand dollars saved and things were going to be OK. I was standing in the supermarket, with a jar of my favourite Polish jam -- and some cheese. It was crazy - I was debating with myself on which item to buy. I was convinced I shouldn't buy both - how could I possibly afford to?

I finally got a grip and silently talked myself into it. "John, you HAVE the $8 for both. It's OK. C'mon - you can DO this, now." It was like being my own Dr. Phil. Fear is a very powerful thing. Especially irrational fear of being broke. It kicked in again when I had that diploma framed - and I knew to go ahead anyway.

And I'm proud of it. That's my colour scheme and those who have seen it, like it. I've always had pretty good colour sense - maybe forty years of photography had something to do with that. I think that my colour sense was sharpened somewhat by the course and my interest in fashion; since then, people have made spontaneous, very favourable comments on my colour choices - quite often.
It's nice here, basking in the glow... :)

So yes - I'm fine with the expense - even if my "red light" self says it's ridiculous. He'll get over it. I told him to. :)

Thanks, Steve. I do think Dr. Phil's show is much, much more ridiculous than I am. :)

I never bothered picking up my diplomas from High School, Community College, or from UC Berkeley. Printing out all those diplomas sounds like even more work. Maybe I could get wallpaper with diplomas printed on it and then hire someone to put it up?

Make sure that person is qualified. At least 20 Doctorates - and being an Archbishop is a plus.

The guy made a fortune (net worth $460 million). Paid way more than his Psychology practice ever did. But awful TV. The complaints in the article aren't dissimilar to many exploitive TV shows. Same reason some of the reality shows are exaggerated or manipulated (ratings and viewership interest). I agree that the end of his show isn't exactly a tragedy.

All men are not Socrates. All Archbishops are not the late Chief. :emoji_ghost:

One would HOPE that only ONE Archbishop would allow himself to make money out of diploma mills. :)

There goes your hope then. In John Kersey's own words:

    (1) "In August 2011, I was elected by the Supreme Council of San Luigi as Archbishop and Prince-Abbot of San Luigi (as Edmond III). San Luigi is both a Western Orthodox and Old Catholic jurisdiction in its own right and a federation of other historic communions.

    (2) I serve as Chancellor for European-American University, which I co-founded in 2003. The University holds a Royal Charter of Incorporation from the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom (Uganda), and is registered as a private provider of higher education in France (as Ecole Supérieure Euro-Américaine).

    (Emphases mine - J,)

I'm pretty sure I could find a couple more Archbishops that fit the profile you described. But I'm busy right now. I'm online, setting up a new University. Two very nice African Traditional Monarchs are helping me. Maybe later. :)

Just one wall of wallpaper would be hundreds of diplomas! They are apparently all written in some kind of space alien language which is extra impressive!

Looks like my comments in another thread about this fellow NOT pretending to be Catholic or Orthodox have to be amended.

And here's ANOTHER "Archbishop" who runs a "school" from our own files:

The head honcho, the "Archbishop" Lawrence Langston, received one of his "doctorates" from the Brockport School of Divinity, which turns up exactly one hit on Google. That one hit happens to be the archbishop's own bio page. His other "doctorate" is from--you guessed it--the school where he's the "chancellor"

That school is Tabernacle Bible College. Thread here:

Dang, Nosborne! You had to throw me an irresistible challenge!
