I don't recall me again's attacks on country of origin. I happen to be independent and so ignore most of these political posts getting worked up on the left and right. Generally it is myopic. Politics tend to get heated. Hopefully, banning Me Again was not a case of heavy handed overzealous moderating. He was a good contributer. I don't know whether it was justified. In general shutting down discussion can end up being not very equitably applied and very FB group pagee and so I find it distasteful. Some people like Levicoff can take things too far and make the Board ugly. Ps Post disappeared after it was noted the Me Again was banned for making disparaging remarks about Stanislav's country of origin. So...I posted separately.
Addendum: Thought the thread was taken down but it appears to work just temp not functioning I guess?
I do. More than once. I'm not sure if he was ultimately banned, or if the space ship I prayed for, took him away. In either case, I think he deserved it. Not for what he said about me - although he did make a couple of disparaging (and not joking) remarks about Canadians in general - but for intolerable stuff he said to someone else here. That scenario became quite a war, and I thought DI would be scorched earth - a wasteland. The scorching was curtailed. The wasteland was avoided. Let's try to keep it that way.
Here's your answer. Rich (and Garp). Stanislav wrote this today: It's here: https://www.degreeinfo.com/index.php?threads/democratic-gunman-tries-to-kill-as-many-republicans-as-possible.50208/page-3#post-570826
Us longtime members were completely baffled by the shift in attitude we saw in Me Again. Before the switch to XenForo, which wiped out the old member titles, his member title was "All Around Nice Guy". He was permanently banned for being anything but.
Here's the thread Stanislav was talking about. https://www.degreeinfo.com/index.php?threads/ukrainian-stanislav%E2%80%99s-hatred-of-united-states-president.52903/
I am reminded of the documentary The Brainwashing of My Dad, in which a filmmaker describes his dad's transformation from a Kennedy-style liberal to a xenophobic right-winger due to (in the son's view) his consumption of talk radio/TV like Rush Limbaugh and Fox News.
My older kids say that when they visit their mom, their grandpa routinely comes to the dinner table all riled up over whatever the outrage du jour on rightwing media is. I guess there's good reason for the joke among younger people that "Fox News did to our grandparents what our grandparents thought violent video games would do to us."
One thing is as bad as the other two other today. The aging boomers watching MSNBC and CNN and mindlessly outraged and molded aren't any less annoying. I know Millennials who are rejecting it all. Unfortunately, we kind of make our minds up and look for what agrees with us (or what has molded us). FOX isn't any worse than CNN or MSNBC. They took stoke things (including violence). The question is, where do you get just news?
Fox, CNN, and MSNBC are all rated about the same mixed accuracy by MediaBiasFactCheck.com. News from CBS, NBC, and ABC are rated much better with high accuracy. I do watch CBS news most evenings. I get most of my news from the written word though. Actually CNN is pretty good for written news.
