Just upgraded on a Win 7 machine. Unlike Win8, this runs like Win7, but with some accessible features (like the tiles) if you want them. I don't want them.

Now I'm hoping my Win8 laptop will upgrade and be better.

On my older computer (with the old Windows 7), the Windows 10 speeded it up. On my newer computer, the Windows 10 upgrade didn't affect the speed.

Thanks, Rich. It's encouraging to hear that they made all the stupid things from Windows 8 optional. I don't want them either. They made it look like Fisher-Price My First Operating System.

I was on a 20-city book tour in 1984, promoting my book "Computer Wimp: 166 things I wish I had known before I bought my first computer." The first question I was asked everywhere was, "What do you use?" My answer then: Epson QX-10 with ValDocs. Halfway through my tour, I got a phone call from an Apple VP. He'd seen one of my interviews and said, "Hey, if we sent you one of our new Macs, coming out next week, would you give it a try?" A Mac 128 was awaiting my return, and I've never looked back. But that Epson did have one feature that nothing else I know about has had since. The portable version (HX-20, I think) had a built-in printer, that instantly printed out your text on 5 or 6 inch wide adding machine paper. How many times could I have used that since! If Epson hadn't been run, at the time, by Scientologists (at least that's what I've read), who knows where it might have gotten.

I downloaded/installed Windows 10 on my PC (it was running 8.1) the day it was released. No problems at all. Did the same on my wife's PC (it was running 8.1 as well) last evening, no problems on her computer either. I never did like the "tiles" in Windows 8, so I already like Windows 10 better than Windows 8.

I value my privacy too much to upgrade to Win10. Moving all machines to *nix.

    Then, why upgrade?

Just bought a laptop with Win7. Glad to have it back. Win10 is a resource hog and it swamps my ultrabook, even with its i5 processor. I needed a most-of-the-day laptop for home so I hunted for one with Win7.

I've been using Win 10 for a couple of weeks now. It's definitely an improvement over Win 8, but it's sub par compared to Win 7.

I just built a new pc the other week and decided to go with Linux instead. I'm currently using Mint 17 and am very happy so far.

Of course, that's not the point of this thread, I'm just happy to report that there are good alternatives out there- some of them at no cost :)

To date, I've had not one problem with Windows 10.

I'm currently using windows 8 and I don't have any trouble using it. Though to be honest, windows 7 is more easy to use. And since I will be joining an IT firm soon, I think it would be better if I stay updated...so, I might soon upgrade to windows 10. I haven't read any reviews yet. Do you mind sharing if you are already using? Thanks.

I am now updated and having no problems. Minor adjustments for me. I have no clear sense of preference at this point.

I've been told you can install Windows 10 on a Raspberry Pi. I'm going to give that a try.

An interesting experiment. I'll bet even if it installs that it runs like a Yugo towing a yacht. But let us know.
