Well, it's technically October 1st in South Africa, and this is the day I get my Doctor of Business Leadership (DBL) conferred at Unisa. So I'm jumping the gun by a few hours, but what the heck. Thanks again for all the wisdom and support from the community here, and best wishes to you all on your own studies!
Great work. Hopefully you'll stick around and offer some advice to our members who are considering the UNISA option.
Woo Hoo. Congrats. Tell me about it in a PM. I need to get myself prepared for my eventual graduation.
Thanks all! My thesis related to online social networks and collaborative innovation. I will use the degree mainly in my role as a speaker and book author (new book coming out this year based partly on the thesis research). I still do the odd bit of teaching and training, so it will help out there as well no doubt - I'm already well-established in that role, so the title is a nice-to-have mostly. No regrets, though I wouldn't counsel anyone to do a doctorate if they could possibly live without one - it's just too life-absorbing for the 4+ years! Stubbornness and an unwillingness to admit defeat kept me going as much as anything. Of course it's easy to say I wouldn't do it again now that I'm through the door. It was important to me for reasons I've long since forgotten, and I'm glad it's done!
I am so very proud of you! (Finishing up pre-doctoral field study at the University of the Free State)
Job well done doctor!!!!!!!!! Great accomplishment. Good job! Abner
Seems like the only people that think like that are the ones the complete the journey (me included many times).
Well done, distance doc! I'd be most interested in knowing if this was done entirely at a distance, or if you needed to make one (or more) trips to Pretoria?
Hi John, Three trips to Midrand (where the Graduate School of Business Leadership is based - between Pretoria and Johannesburg) to present and defend the proposal, methodology and final results to a big group of faculty members. This was a big highlight for me, since I loved the country and met several really cool people among fellow students and faculty.
