While this sounds good on paper, what if these school drop NA or RA accreditation by the time you are ready for a masters? What if they no longer offer a program that appeals to you or your needs change and want a degree they never offered?

Just saying - why limit yourself if you know you will want an RA masters? I think you are really setting yourself up for a fall or a very limited future regarding options.

In an earlier post, I mentioned Upper Iowa University (UIU). As I mentioned previously, UIU offers a BS in Business Administration. One may complete the courses via Independent Study, online, or a combination. Tuition for independent study courses are $296/credit. Tuition for online courses are $350/credit (the same as Univeristy of Atlanta). UIU is a regionally accredited school with an actual campus. UofA is nationally accredited, with no campus and as we've all heard, their past dealings as Barrington Univ were less than wonderful. The UIU example is just one of many where an RA school offers the same program as a DETC school for the same or less money. Seems like a no-brainer to me...

    Best of luck,

Thanks for the suggestion, japhy. I looked into it and found that UOA charges $350.00 per three-credit and nine-credit course according to the site, which works out to $116.67 per credit and $38.89 respectively, which is much cheaper than UIU and if I were to get at least 60 credits in transfer I'd only be spending about $6300 as opposed to anywhere from $20,000 to as much as $30,000 after factoring in books and other expenses with UIU. I'm guessing the IS system with UIU is by mail? If so, that wouldn't be something I'd want to do as I prefer online only. I'd also image the online only system at UIU has some type of set schedule which won't work for me right now. I need 100% self-paced and online.

That said, I don't think I'll deal with the University Of Atlanta for all the reasons talked about. Penn Foster might be the only one that fits my current scheduling needs.

I haven't made a definite decision on anything just yet. The only thing I know for sure is that the program has to be 100% self-paced and online. If such an RA program exists I'm open to it.

That's the one.....it sounds like an experimental elementary school.

The UofA program is dirt cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Here is another option for you: Bachelor of General Studies (Independent Study) | Online & Distance Education

Thanks, japhy. This looks a lot closer to what I'd be looking for. It appears that you can combine IS and guided online, and you can also skip mailing and do IS online entirely which is fantastic. If I were to go, I'd probably go for Social Science or Psychology. It's a shame they don't have a BBM or BBA program.

I'll have to ask about their NA credit policy, but judging from their policy page it looks very specific and barely flexible. I do have a number of RA credits from other schools, but it wouldn't make the same impact as being able to use my full amount of NA credits. This should be interesting...

They had classes they had no syllabi. Courses that had no instructors.

Not having a syllabus is lazy, but courses not having instructors is a pretty common thing in independent study programs.

I wonder how many posts I need before auto-modding is lifted?
