Fascinating. I guess it's not surprising that institutions with skin in the game aren't taking NUC's approach lying down.

    Hello
I am a former Academic Dean, who needs in Nigeria and I your bank number to transfer $25M and 2 PhDs to your account. Just send me your name for a PhD certificate suitable for framing and your bank account. So congratulations, you are now a rich person who can be called doctor.

Where did my post go? Oh, well, I'll try to reconstruct it now. Oh, yeah, I said this!

Too bad these benighted people jusart don't understand the diff between an online degree and a milled degree.

I don't think it was that so much as it was a turf war.

I bumped into this story, which is more like an advertisement, about this university in Nigeria opening up it's online programs. I had never heard of this school before but a brief sprint through wikipedia indicates that it's kind of a famous place in its own right. In any case, it's really just another indication that Nigeria continues to reverse its ban on DL programs.

The list seems pretty fuzzy - somewhat hasty and consequently not entirely accurate, considering it's from the National Universities Commission - or was some reporter faced with a very ight deadline?

    Examples:

    (1) Pebbles University - I'm sure they mean Pebble Hills.
    (2) Atlantic Intercontinental U. Do they mean Atlantic International (ASIC-accredited) or American Intercontinental (RA) or...?

I didn't know EC-Council U. was active in Nigeria. It's NA (DEAC) in the US. Not my favourite name, but it's not a bogus school, on its home turf.

Still, they've got a number of known mills in their sights. That's good news for Nigerians seeking higher education.
