Well, I just got a ticket on my way home. This is what it is for:

VC21461 (a) Failure to obey traffic control sign (stop here on red)

Does anyone have any idea how this ticket will cost me? He could have given me a ticket for going through a red light, but he cut me slack because he "appreciated" my name. If I don't go to traffic school, it will be 1 point on my driving record. I guess I am going to traffic school. I believe that presently in Cali you have to pay the ticket, plus the traffic school fee. Oh boy!

I looked on the CA DMV website, but they do not have ticket fees listed.

    Thanks,

    Abner

    Hey Abner,

It's good to see you posting again. I'm going to guess that it will be somewhere between $200 and $400. I got popped by a traffic light camera on Newport Blvd a couple of years ago and the ticket was $360. That's not good news, I know.

Dude where the heck did you go? I started to send you a pm to check on you the other day.

As a former officer, not traffic, I think it's cool you not on here looking for a way to beat it.

19 years ago in PA, the ticket would have cost you $89.

That's all I have to contribute to this conversation.

I have been tied up with some home improvement projects that rolled over into this year from last year.

As far as the ticket, the officer was just doing his job, which I understand. I believe a man has to pay for this mistakes. He was surprised when I shook his hand and told him to have a good one after he gave me the ticket. He said "I hope you have a better afternoon". I think the minute he saw my car he thought I would be an obnoxious jerk.

    See ya bro!

In the state of California each individual county sets their own fine schedule. There is a minimum rate set forth by the state, but the county could increase the fine. Thats the weird thing about the size of California, some areas the median income is 30K per year, while in the area I worked the median income was four times that amount. This is why each county sets their fine schedules differently.

21461(a) VC is a lesser offense then 22450 VC- Stop Sign Violation, and the fine is way less. Don't quote me, but I believe 21461(a) is around $120-$140 but I'm not positive. I haven't written a ticket in two years so my VC knowledge is a bit rusty.

Just be glad you didn't get cited for 22450 VC which in my area of California has a fine starting at $376 for the first offense. It sounds like you passed the attitude check and he cited you for the lesser of the two offenses, as the officer could have cited you for either one.

The fee will vary. Many jurisdictions will reduce the price if you show in court to mitigate it. Maybe you should start a thread on the main DL forum to see if anyone has any distance traffic school recommendations :).

Total cost of a ticket can cost over $300 based on where you live in California. That includes fees imposed by cities and courts.
If you belong to AAA check with them if your ticket (and its effects) can be ameliorated in any way.

I was 16 and returning from the high school homecoming dance. My parents were less than thrilled.

While the California universities (UC &CSU) do not seem to like DL, the DMV does. Most or at least many jurisdictions allow you to do traffic school online. My wife did it that way for a speeding ticket a couple of years ago. Cost was under $20.

I had no idea about that. That totally rocks, maybe I'll get my speeding ticket off of my record that way.

There are two ways not to ever get a ticket.......

    1-Become a Police Officer
    2-Don't Speed!

There is a third way but we can't talk about it here.

..since you're speaking in generalities... your post would suggest that if you have a badge, you'll never get a ticket - that is not the case. You're a former Police Officer, and perhaps you used your badge to get out of a ticket (which is an ethical issue), however to imply that Police Officers can get away with breaking the law they are sworn to uphold (traffic or otherwise) is simply not the truth.

I had a friend in HS who's father was a Florida State Trooper. I remember once he pulled over his own son for speeding and gave him a ticket, which the son had to pay out of his wages from Burger King.

I don't think he drove much over the speed limit after that. :)

You bring up a good point in theory. However, in the real world, we "try" not to eat our own. Professional courtesy is a reality regardless on the on the matter. It has to do with the police culture in general . . .

Don't be a loser.......My post does not suggest anything, I'm saying it!!!!! We don't write each other tickets....just like in any other profession, people help each other out. I thought I was on a site with adults not children.

    lolz .....come back to earth!!!!
