I guess you'd as well mock the Norwegian Cliff Divers. If any had survived, that is.

Since you admit to knowing so little about professional accreditations:

    Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education:

    http://www.acpe-accredit.org/deans/schools.asp

Schools like Auburn, USC, and the University of Florida are also accredited by this organization.

    Commission on Dental Accreditation

The University of Florida among others is also accredited by this organization:

The University of Florida College of Dentistry - Jacksonville Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program is fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation

    And on and on

As for University Council of Jamaica:

Temple University mentions UCJ at their Web site:

    http://www.temple.edu/education/curric_dept/international.html

The program is offered on-site at Church Teachers' College, Mandeville, and is delivered by faculty members of Temple University. The program is accredited by the University Council of Jamaica, the body that is responsible for quality assurance in institutions and programs in Jamaica.

Here are some other schools accredited by the UCJ:

    http://www.ucjamaica.com/credit/index.htm

Eastern Connecticut State University/Hanover Education Foundation - U.S.A.

Watson Taylor Drive, P.O. Box 49, Lucea, Hanover

Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Applied Social Relations

Florida International University/Institute of Management Sciences - U.S.A.

    17 Worthington Avenue, Kingston 5

    Master of Business Administration

Manchester Business School/ Jamaica Institute of Bankers - U.K.
    39 Hope Road, Kingston 10

    Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Mount Saint Vincent University/JACAE - Canada
47B South Camp Road, Kingston 4

    Master in Education
    Master of Arts in Education

University of New Orleans - U.S.A.
Suite 13, 22G Old Hope Road, Kingston 5

Master of Business Administration (Executive MBA)

University of South Florida/Shortwood Teachers' College

    77 Shortwood Road, Kingston 8

    Masters in Early Childhood Education

I am sure these schools (some AACSB) would appreciate learning that UCJ is a joke.

    Just my opinion

No, you misread my intent, it was not to disparage all schools that have that vaunted UCJ accreditation--I suppose it may have some utility (in Jamaica, at least)--but UCJ accreditation STANDING ALONE is not just a gentle tap on the shoulder that a B-school's not up to snuff vis-a-vis ranked schools--it's more like a punch in the gut!

Manchester university, for example, is accredited by the UK Royal Charter, AACSB, AMBA and Equis--the most prestigious accrediting bodies in the world. If they also happen to be accredited by the UCJ, it's a fact considered so trivial as to not warrant a single mention on their website, as far as I could find. To mention Manchester--truly a world-class program ranked among the very best--in the same sentance, book or library with Nova because they allegedly happen to share an accreditation--which MBS somehow omits reference to on their accreditation page--is sophistry at best.

Now let me say that there are certain admirable things about Nova: they fill a niche for the non-traditional student, they actually do sport real buildings and professors that exist right on campus rather than cyberspace, and they are NOT a diploma mill. I'll agree with you that the quote you posted earlier contained criticisms of Nova that were unwarranted, but one of your main points, the one with which I take exception, was that Nova wasn't ranked because of bias. Nova is what it is, a school primarily for non-traditionals, part-timers, and those who could not gain admission to a ranked program. There's nothing wrong with that per se (and thanks to them for offering a real educational option for those of us who can't afford to take 4 years off from a career to obtain a Doctorate) but that still doesn't make Nova more than it is.

It doesn't deserve to be ranked. Not yet by a mile.

Don't laugh too much, mon. The University of the West Indies, based in Jamaica, has such a stranglehold on public opinion that even the *possibility* of another GAAP school ever arising in the Caribbean is ruled out of court by many.

I am having a hard time finding where I said Nova deserved to be ranked (as in Top 100 -150). Please quote me where I said that. All I can find is:

I am pointing out they are still at Tier 4 (the bottom)

Again no mention of deserving to be in the Top 100 rankings (I agreed with you), just perhaps by now with their Law, Medical, Dental, and other schools with many, many professional accreditiations a Tier 3 might be in order.

The US News rankings for National Schools works something like this:

    http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/ranknatudoc_brief.php

Top Schools (Listed in RANKED order)
Tier 3 (Listed in alphabetic order)
Tier 4 (Listed in alphabetic order) the bottom

    Just my opinion

At least Mr. Todd Nelson is making a profit for the school.

Let's take a look at the president of Stevens Institute Of Technology, a "Non-Profit" school:

From the Chronicle of Higher Education March 4, 2005:

    BIG DEFICITS, BIG PAYCHECKS

    User name - password required

    http://chronicle.com/prm/weekly/v51/i26/26a02601.htm

Stevens Institute Of Technology - Private nonprofit, 4-year or above

    In part:

Those that criticize the for-profits for making money should take a closer look at what the non-profits do with their money first.

    Just my opinion

What's in a name? Would not a profit by any other name spend as sweet?

Or "Touch not my anointed and the heck with profits as long as I get my raises."

    Love those non-profits!
