Are you stuck on the frozen steppes of North Dakota, freezing your butt off? Do you wish that you were in Hawaii, under a palm tree, soaking up the warm sun on the beach instead?

Well, the University of Hawaii may just be your answer.

I was snooping around their website and found that they offer DL programs.

There are three and a half of them:

    BA in Liberal Studies
BA in Information and Computer Science
MS in Information and Computer Science

And a partially DL MA in Music Education that currently offers 18 of its 30 units by DL.

There are "residency requirements", but it sounds like they mean that these units must be taken from them after one is formally matriculated into the degree program, not that you have to come on campus to do it.

The bachelors programs are upper division, they expect that you will transfer in two years of community college. The U. of Hawaii community college system also offers internet courses, see the link on their webpage.

If you don't have a degree objective, you can take classes without even applying for admission to the university, just sign up on the webpage.

Cost is low: $131/unit U.G. and $173/unit graduate. Resident and non-resident charges are the same.

The degrees apparently come out of the University of Hawaii, Manoa. That's their flagship campus.

There may be something I'm missing, but this seems like a very attractive and user-friendly setup to me. I can almost hear the ukelele music...

And just think: a legitimate Hawaii DL program!

I thought everyone in Edmonton hung out on the huge indoor beach at the West Edmonton Mall.

No, when I have to go for meetings with the "academics" at Athabasca University's Edmonton office, the only three places that I go to are the AU office, Howard Johnson's and the Jekyll & Hyde Pub & Restaurant. After a meeting with the academics, several drinks are always necessary to decompress from such endeavours, making the weather a moot point.
