Why wouldn't I want to enroll (Aspen University)?

Didn’t Aspen have a similar deal a few years ago which was also well received? A few members on this site took advantage of it. Hence, what is the instinctive cost of the Aspen’s MBA? $4,000. We are all are familiar with the equilibrium price. Come next month potential students may still seek the $4000 deal because in their minds the $4000 is no longer a deal but the true cost of pursuing the Aspen’s MBA. Those students who registered after the previous special but prior to this special had a bad deal. If Aspens will release this information, the average receipts over the past three years from the MBA’s program including this new deal is more closer to this deal price than to the regular price.

Spoken like a true accountant! Good thinking. Unfortunately, I doubt they would release that sort of info because I would like to know too.

I am doing extensive research on Aspen University, since I am seriously considering doing an MBA and taking advantage of the deal that exp. in 2 weeks.

However, I read that early 2008 when AU introduced what they called "lecture notes". They require purchase of this "lecture notes" at the time of course registration. The general consensus is that these "lecture notes" are very low quality, full of typos and other mistakes and often word for word copy of major points from the text books. Some people claimed those lecture notes were useless to them but they had to purchase them paying $75 to $100 since they are required. IMHO, this is a very agressive way of quickly making a lot of money without providing any values in return.

Is this practice still in place with AU?

After talking with several people enrolled in online edu., it is an average of 10 hours per course from Aspen

In case anyone wondered the same, I called and found out lecture notes (if available are provided for free. Way to go AU!

It is too bacd AU does not provide a .edu email to students - you could get free 2-day shipping with amazon on anything (great for ordering books)... oh well

The AU MBA is a heck of deal. It is accredited, and it won't break you, especially in this economy. I work for the State Government, and it is accepted. I also do contract work, and the MBA helps me gain more money. The initials MBA seem to really impress people! :) I completed the MBA program recently at AU. Good education, and at the grad level, only PhD teachers are provided.

As far as books? I bought mine from abebooks.com I purchased the international Edition (IE) books for a fraction of the price. I bought a $270.00 IE for $35.00!

I was one of the people irritated by the requirement of purchasing lecture notes since they essentially were verbatim chunks out of the course text.

They stopped requiring the purchasing of lecture notes in January of 2009.

    Abner,

I am 90% inclined to do the MBA starting next month. I just don't know what I would be missing out by doing the MBA instead of the other specialized MBA degrees.

Thanks for the book tip! But doesn't AU recommend buying the edition they ask for and 7-10 days before courses start? Did you find any major differences between the IE and the regular ones AU mentions?

I've heard great things from Abner and others about buying books from Abebooks. I've always just bought them used on Amazon. Saved a bundle.

Slogging away, Abner. I'll let you know when I'm nearing the end!

Isn't the special deal over at the end of this month?

No difference between the IE and regular US edition. Once again, just remember that the seller on Abebooks states "exact same as US edition".

I wonder if it has to be postmarked by 9/1 or they need to receive it on or before 9/1?....

Usually, the business setting rule of thumb is "postmarked by". When this allowed, it usually states that. I would try to mail it in a little bit early just in case.

Yea, I wouldn't push it. That's a lot of money at stake.

OK, here's a real value at Aspen... the Master of Arts in Psychology and Addictions Counseling at $100 per unit is an outstanding value. Normally you would expect to pay at least $10 per CEU and this is about $6.67 per CEU (1 semester unit equals 15 CEUs or so...) for DETC graduate credit!

Hey, Aspen people... the title of the degree in the heading on the page is incorrect.

That is true. Plus, that program has some kind of special certification? I am not very familiar with that field, but you probably know what it is I am trying to say.
