Well I seem to be at a crossroads. I am two classes away from earning my second masters and will have it by May 2019. I always thought that I'd like to continue with a doctorate, but now I'm not so sure. What made you decide that you were going to get a doctorate? There are a bunch of reasons, but what was the one thing that sent you over the edge and made you finally go for it? I am currently an elementary physical education teacher, but I believe that sooner rather than later, I'd like to teach at the college level. In addition, I love learning and education and would actually love to stay in school forever and continue working on degrees. Here is my short pros and cons list Pros: Betters my chances of teaching at the college level. Personal goal of mine. Cons: Expensive. Time consuming.
I don't have a doctoral degree although, like AIK, I've imagined it might be in my future at some point. I think he's asked a good and interesting question and I'd like to add one of my own: Did it work out the way you hoped? (and/or) Would you do it over again?
Quite simply, as I neared completion of my Master's, my Draft Board said that on the day I left school, they intended to send me to southeast Asia to defend freedom. (I was not blessed with having bone spurs.) So I waltzed from the MJ straight into the PhD -- but with a demanding (and rewarding) halftime job for the first two years, and a great full-time job (mostly in New York advertising) for the next three.
