Carolina Panthers vs. New England Patriots. Who brings home the Lombardi Trophy?

NE Pats are the better team top to bottom and certainly the better coached, so I will take the Carolina Panthers in an upset.

    Panthers

Finally Tom Brady's luck will run out, no snow heaven for pats in Houston. Carolina Panthers will win.

Away from home Tom Brady has thrown more interceptions, and panthers are good in intercepting passes.

Brady has 12 int in 2003 all of them are away. Brady will taste some Pepper ( I mean Julius Pepper) this time.

    GO PANTHERS...................

Pats. I think there is a Panther curse currently operative. May well apply to footballers as well as my Macintosh 10.3 operating system. Something to do with Mercury being in retrograde, I am told. That would presumably be the planet, and not the former Dolphins running back.

Pats! They will peak in Houston. Possibly a blowout!

I've never watched a football game. But since London bookmakers are offering long odds (3.0) for the Panthers and short odds (1.4) for the Patriots...

I admit that I'm a rabid Pats fan, but Panthers fans take note that I went alphabetically & put Carolina first. :D

I think that Carolina just doesn't have the offensive firepower to overcome the Pats' "Homeland Defense" defensive unit. Bill Belichick and Romeo Crennell made Peyton Manning look like an XFL quarterback, so I don't think Jake Delhomme is going to fare any better.

Carolina will no doubt use Stephen Davis heavily, but the Pats having Ted Washington at nose tackle effectively shuts down the middle of the line. That will force Davis to go outside the tackles, where Willie McGinest, Tedy Bruschi, Roman Phifer, Rodney Harrison and the rest will be waiting.

I really don't think that the Panthers will make it into the end zone......any points they score will come off field goals. I predict Rodney Harrison will have a huge game defensively.

    Patriots - 27
    Panthers - 9

Being in the Carolinas I will of course be pulling for the Panthers. I hope they can pull it off, but they are going up against a team with the total package. The Patriots coaches are brilliant. The defense is almost perfect, and the offense and quarterback are underrated. I just hope that they overlook Carolina. We will see.

Another thing......I'm not a big believer in anything racial, but if Romeo Crennell isn't a head coach in the NFL next season, then I'll really start to think it's because he's black.

Crennell is not going to be a coach next season unless the Raiders hire him. It is the only vacancy left for a head coaching position. His ethnic background does not come into play on why he did not get one of the other six openings. What does come into play is the fact that he is on a winning team. This means that he is hindered by NFL rules which do not allow him to pursue other jobs until his season is over.

I wanted to pick the Washington Redskins, but that wasn't one of the choices. Now that Spurrier is gone perhaps they will find a way to be in the thick of things next year...or the year after that.

Getting back to the poll. I say Panthers.

With all the hype surrounding both the College BCS and the NFL playoffs, the better teams on paper didn't always win on the field.

Case in point #1...the Oklahoma Sooners, with Heisman trophy winner Jason White at QB, was being hyped as the best team in college football history. They were also characterized as being as good as some of the better NFL teams. Their performance in the Big 12 title game and in the Sugar Bowl didn't live up to the hype.

Case in point #2...Manning and McNabb were the two super hero, can-do-it-all QBs in the NFL. However, both were outplayed in the title games. Now they will be watching the Super Bowl on the tube.

I think I will put a few bob on the Panthers.

Let's see. I am a major major Dallas Cowboys fan. We beat the Panthers, then LOST to them. The Patriots beat us....I have to root for the NFC...so Panthers 20-17. Bruce do we get something for predicting the score right? A phd in predicting maybe???lol

I've been told that the line is seven points with the Pats set to win. I think the Pats will win but they won't cover the spread. I say it's the Pats by 3 points.

Jack Tracey on 1/30: Pats by three. Well done, sir.

Just before halftime, I was expecting Bud Selig to walk in and declare it a scoreless tie, and we could all go home. And then it got exciting (and I don't mean Janeet Jackson ripping of Justin Timberlake's cod piece, or whatever happened when I went out to walk the dog).
