I have about 30 FEMS IS courses and 2 or 3 NFA Q courses banked at TESC. Have you actually banked all of these to conform TESC's acceptance?

 

I have not taken any yet, but I will take them all if they will actually be worth credit!

So taking them all may be the best option as we do not really know what they will take in the end?

My wife has finished 6 of them in the last 2 days. I am going to start taking them soon!

 

I wouldn't just arbitrarily go through the FEMA site and take every course you can find. That might be a big waste of time. I'd take as many on the first list as you can, then go to the second list. That will give you a ton of credits, probably more than any school will actually accept as part of a degree program. What are you planning to do with these credits? Are you planning to transfer them into a degree at TESC? If so, what type of degree?

I am a couple quarters away from finishing an NA bachelors, For the masters program I need I would need an RA bachelors. Was looking at that Canadian College that has a 3 year bachelors, but was not sure that would work for the University College @ University of Denver online, so I saw all the info on TEST taking FEMA classes and with all my other credits, It may be a good opportunity to get an RA bachelors. I do not mind going through the fema courses over a 4 to 6 week period and finishing them all. This will ensure I have enough credits for a bachelors.

 

I currently have the following credits. I just wanted to do all of the FEMA courses to ensure that I have an abundance of credit towards just finishing a bachelors degree.... And they are free anyways!!

Sorry, thought that was a list from 2006 which was outdated.

The Fema site says every year, they submit new classes to ACE for credit review. So I was thinking it was 2 years out of date considering all of the retired courses etc.

Did not know if someone had a current list that was more relevant to what is available on the FEMA site.

 

What credit do they carry?

 

I really like the FEMA courses. I've yet to find a school besides TESC where I can transfer them, but the information you pick up from them is well worth it. Plus, it looks REALLY good on a resume. I do a bit of contract work and I was looking for a new position and submitted my updated resume to the agency I belong to, with these listed. The HR Rep at the agency told me they'd never seen so many offers come through for me before the update.

I guess perhaps some employers may view people who study Homeland Security as being more socially responsible than the norm? At least that's the impression I've been getting from it. Of course, it could just be that the training stands out because they don't see a ton of applicants coming through with it. Either way, I'm certainly not complaining.

 

I have not gone through that 1st list to cross off the courses that are no longer offered, but I've taken and successfully transferred every course on the 1st list that is still being offered. I've done this in the last 90 days so the info is very current.

As for the second list, I am extremely confident that TESC would accept everyting on it because I pulled those courses from the FCC catalog.

I am in the process of enrolling in the BA program at Bellevue...they are accepting all of the FEMA credits that are reflected on my TESC transcript. I have no idea if they'd accept them without going through TESC though.

I am probably going to take EVERY fema Fire Academy course over the next 5 weeks, I will let everyone know which ones get banked. They are Free, cannot pass up that opportunity!

Fema Credits are upper division?

Are these courses being awarded as upper division level credit at any of the schools mentioned? Does this matter? I have over 90 hours of college credit but 60 are toward an A.S. degree. Can the Fema credits help in acheiving the remaining hours needed towards a genral studies type bachelors degree, or any bachelor degree?

 

Yes and no. A couple of the FEMA/NFA courses are counted as upper level. but only a couple. That said, TESC counts 200 level courses as being upper level, but it still has a stipulation that no more than 90 hours can be earned from 2-year schools. Also, if your AA is from Ashworth you are going to have transfer issues at a lot of schools anyway because it's NA.
