Narcissists often introduce themselves as "Dr." outside a professional context...

Still, in hospitals and classrooms it is helpful to know who the doctors are but rarely on other occasions.

I never introduce myself as "doctor." Others might, but I don't (orally) style myself. When called "doctor," I normally ask that the person address me by my first name.

I never correct "Mister" because "Mister" is correct. Oh, I might ask for a change to a nametag or something if I was at a conference where others were styled "doctor," but that's never actually happened. Emphasis on "might." Might not, too.

In short, I don't mind it, but I don't seek it, and I give it away as soon as possible to facilitate collegial discussion.
