    Well... you could be Nerf-batted-in...

...but we make you do it naked, hopping up-and-down on one foot, repeating "I'm such a pretty girl" every time any of us says "Mississippi."

(First one to identify that, of late and on TV, to which that last part is an obscure reference gets a gold star!)

That's partly why we hand out air-sick bags and Dramamine at the door.

    Seriously though, Mr. EricB:

Did you studiously examine the contents, personalities, rants or usefulness, of most of the threads and posts on those other fora which you referred to in your thread-starting post, then compare same to those of this forum, DI, and still come out bewildered as to which forum does what or who represents what?

    Seriously?

Many students (DL "newbies") who I refer to several DL sites, on investigative, online-show-me trips, come back to tell me in class - that "they mostly just took one look at those other fora out there, and then at DI, and very quickly found out what was what."

This, to them, did not take an inordinate amount of time.

    I agree.

    Case in point:

A valued contributor here at DI (and a degree mill jouster/hunter, par excellence, domiciled in the good state of Oregon, I might add) recently had an article on proposed (alternative to RA/NA/mGAAP) state acceditation plans here in the US - and he invited feedback.

Many of the denizens of those other fora (over there) came in and almost unianimoulsy, posted at the Chronicle's website, in favor of alternative, state accreditation regimens for currently unaccredited entities.

Many posters, from here, DI, generally posited a negative stance on such possibly duplicative and unnecessary, state accreditation proposals.

Now, several of my DL newbie students asked me:

Why is it that several known diploma mill and un-wonderful "schools" operators almost unanimously favor state accreditation for most unaccredited, arguably un-wonderful entities, while several DL experts and DI contributors generally opposed same or preached caution ?

I rhetorically asked the newbies: How would you feel to be on the same side of an accreditation argument as the President/Owner/Chief "Honcho" of the dubious Athenaeum "U" or St. Regis "U" or PW"U"?

If your bewilderment persists (and I sincerely hope not, for your sake), then your befuddlement would sincerely befuddle me (and others in here, I am certain) ........

    Please say it a'int so.

Or is - so that I can understand the true nature of your initial question.

And if said question (in your thread-starting post) has now been answered (I hope), to your genuine satisfaction and understanding, then do forgive me for bringing it up this late in the conversation.

    Thanks.

    :)

Jake - It took me about 10 seconds viewing alt.education.distance and another 2 seconds to compare those postings to DI to know where I would like to spend my time.

The corruption of aed hapened quite quickly. There had been some detractors, but with few exceptions, they were treated with respect. Sure, there were arguments, at times heated, but they were just that, arguments. Very rarely did arguments denigrate into personal attacks.

Then, seemingly overnight, there was a great flood of (borrowing from John) less than wonderful personalities posting. The attacks became personal and were quite nasty. Chip had the vision and forsight to create DegreeInfo.com. I'm glad to have time again to start contributing again.

What's up with this forum is that we believe in truth and right and justice and the American way. And, more importantly, we try to steer our newbies to legitimate educational opportunities in their desired fields. Those other forums, on the other hand, are a bunch of con artists and mill shills.
