What school did you go to? That's too long to provide meaningful feedback.

All good now but I never missed a beat in teaching!

Good discussion - here is my .02 cents.

I teach for several schools, each with differing requirements on faculty responsiveness. I am very good at time management, but this requires some discipline. I log into every one of my courses once daily - however, if I log into a class at 10AM on Monday, I may not get back into that course until 10PM on Tuesday.

One issue I frequently encounter is the perception that as soon as the student submits a paper or asks a question in the course, the instructor stands ready and waiting to respond to it. Given the above example, there may 36 hours between my class visits even though they are on consecutive days.

I make every attempt to have papers back within four days. This is four days past the due date of the assignment - if the student submits the assignment early I may not get to it until closer to the due date. Also, late assignment submissions from students get moved to the bottom of the pile.

I respond to emails within 48 hours. A 24 hour response for emails is too restrictive in my view - again there may be a longer window than that between daily course visits (several schools I have taught at require the faculty to actually log into the learning platform to retrieve mail - it could not be forwarded to other accounts).

This is very informative. It's good for me to see this from the point of view of the instructor. Thanks.

If I'm going to miss a deadline that they expect... Managing expectations is the key.
