Hello, Just wanted to inform everyone that Walden's Mental Health Counseling program is now CACREP-accredited! I am new to this forum, so please forgive me if I am repeating information you already know . http://www.waldenu.edu/mhc. Jadey
What is strange is that they say that they are the only game in town unless they are changing a letter or two in the degree designation. Capella was the only game in town. Now it isn't nor is Walden. Notice this from Walden's website: "Walden is the only school that offers a CACREP-accredited M.S. degree in Mental Health Counseling online." Anyone figure that one out? It is almost misleading or it is a mistake. Notice Capella's statement: "Capella is the first and only online university offering CACREP-accredited master's degree specializations." That would be accurate since they have more than one degree that is CACREP accredited.
Okay, I see what Walden did. They ARE the only online CACREP accredited M.S. in "Mental Health Counseling" while Capella's similar degree is an M.S. in Human Services with a concentration in Mental Health Counseling. Tricky, tricky!
BlackBird, I was also confused about the difference between Capella and Walden's M.S. degree. Thanks for clearing that up!
Re: As far as CACREP is concerned, it is likely the same program. As I examine the curriculum for Walden, the only noticeable difference I see in general between them and Capella is that Walden requires a statistics course. Walden also provides an option to do a thesis (in addition to the other comparable requirements to Capella), but it is not required. They also combined a couple of courses in their course line up - compared with Capella. Also, Capella was actually the first online CACREP program in both MFCC, and MHC. Shawn
Re: Walden/Capella - CACREP One last note: It is not a "concentration" with Capella's programs. They list it as a **Specialization**. One thing is clear, Capella now has competition. Walden also requires more credits. There are obviously some differences.
