At this point, Diaper Donald is so clearly losing his faculties that I'm assuming his supporters (especially the big money donors) actively like JD Vance and realize that's who soon would become president if the Republicans win.

JD is incredibly unpopular even amongst Trump supporters.

Not with Elon Musk and other big money tech bros, I'll bet.

No, but to the general electorate he is.

MAGA is delusional about Trump's physical and mental fitness. The pragmatic, but nefarious, Republicans know that JD Vance has a high chance of becoming president during Trump's term. Vance was selected by the Heritage Foundation. The Heritage Foundation also picked Trump's federal judge nominees.

Been thinking about this. Trump's public behavior does not inspire confidence but fear of his displeasure will keep the Cabinet and Congressional GOP in line. I see no hope in that direction.

But what if Trump wins the White House but at some point, either next week or in 2026, Democrats receive majorities in both Houses? Would they really wish to install President Vance? Leaving aside his general odiousness, Vance would, have the benefit of incumbency in 2028.

It's woefully underreported in the media, but Trump can barely function. They won't have a choice.

Woodrow Wilson couldn't function for the last two years of his Presidency.

That was a long time ago in a very different media environment. Besides, I don't see JD Vance allowing a similar situation to pass unremarked.

True. But again, suspending Trump would be deeply risky if he's anything short of deceased.

Very true. Trump is all about rage and revenge. The enemy from within means anyone Trump is mad at.

Jeff Bezos knows that so his Post isn’t coming out to support any candidate this year.

I have to assume that Jeff Bezos is more concerned about his other enterprises besides the Washington Post when he made that decision. Trump has already spent a fair amount of energy attacking Jeff Bezos. I'm not trying to defend his decision, just arguing that from his perspective it's probably just the best business decision. The most animus should be directed at Trump for being so hateful and revenge oriented.

I don't know to what extent, if at all, national elections can be affected by newspaper endorsements. My own local experience suggests that a newspaper endorsement can make a difference.

Maybe, but Donald called Rafael's wife ugly and accused his father of assassinating JFK, and he's still supporting him.

Apparently the Washington Post just had 200,000 digital subscriptions cancel due to Bezos blocking a Harris endorsement. If true, that's gotta hurt. My source isn't as rock solid as I'd like; Stephen Colbert said so during his monolog.

"The Money" doesn't care who's in charge of the government, as long as they keep the mouth-breathers enthralled and leave their (the billionaires') taxes alone (or lower them further). It's no more complicated than that.

The life expectancy of a 78 year-old man is 9.5 years. On the one hand, Trump is obese and might suffer from other, hidden, health issues. On the other, he has access to the finest medical care available. I think it is quite likely he would survive and complete another term as president. While there is a great deal of speculation regarding his mental well-being, we really don't have any true insight into it. And Republicans would be loathe to take 25th Amendment action against him.

I could see him working a deal with Vance to step down early in return for a full pardon. That wouldn't fix the state charges against him in Georgia, but he might be able to handle those.

What will be really interesting, besides the wrangling over the voting outcome, will be November 26th. Would a state judge sentence a president-elect to prison?

This is an excellent question. I can't imagine that the NY governor would pardon him. He does have the SCOTUS in his back pocket though. So that might save him, if he wins the election.
