The University of the Southwest (New Mexico) recently received permission from the HLC to offer an online Doctor of Education (Ed.D.). The university claims that this is the only 100% online Ed.D. in the state of New Mexico. www.usw.edu They were already offering a DBA online, which allows up to 12 master's level transfer credits. In either program, student pays $799/credit with no additional fees. Students receive a free laptop during their first course, access to statistical software, and free textbooks/course materials. Students have the option of attending their residencies on campus or virtually. An ironic distinction, since being 100% online means its location in New Mexico is irrelevant. Hard to break old paradigms....
Very true. But people do tend to prefer institutions that are located near them, even when doing distance learning. And this may be their way of differentiating themselves from NMSU's much older and better established mostly-distance PhD in Curriculum and Instruction.
