I just applied to the UC PhD IT program and I'm waiting for my transcripts to show up. While I'm waiting, does anyone know what classes the WGU MS CSIA degree transfers in as? I'm just curious if it will knock any classes off my list, or if I'm going to have to slog my way through the entire program. I'm still going to do it either way, but it's nice to have a plan ahead of time.

I expect to finish my Master's in April 2022 and UC is definitely on my list for potential PhD programs. Really glad to see everyone's experiences.

    Hi everyone,

Where do you find the requirements for the written interview? I just submitted my application and I cannot find any info about this or any place to upload the answer on Self service either!

I haven't had anyone ask me to submit a written interview yet, and I'm allegedly fully admitted. I'm even enrolled into my first two classes, though I haven't received a billing statement yet, nor have I been contacted from the financial aid department regarding my FAFSA yet. I'm assuming that will likely happen once we get through the July 4th holiday weekend.

I'm also enrolled in 2 classes for the fall semester but haven't heard anything regarding books, which concerns me because given everything with shipping right now, I don't want to star the program without the needed materials. I spoke with the VA rep who is very responsive and he said he would file the finances near the end of July.

I updated my FAFSA last week and added UC to it. Today I got an email from finance to accept the student loans and do the mandatory onboarding training. I still don't have a book list, but there's still time for that.

That's good to hear for you! Last time I logged in (few days ago) I saw my 2 classes but when I clicked on them, there wasn't much in the way of even a book list nor syllabus, etc. I figure when the funding part is finalized and as time gets closer to the start date, those things will open up and/or allow us to get our books ordered.

Yeah, I'd love to get the book list early so I can get a jump-start on the upcoming semester. By the way, I sent an email to the financial aid team a couple days after updating my FAFSA to verify that they got it. That seemed to help kick the process into motion, so I'd recommend you doing the same if you're still waiting for them.

I ended up going onto the UC bookstore, put in the first class I am registered for and it gave me the book list.

I got the booklist by emailing the professor. He sent me the booklist, but he's still working on the syllabus.

    Hey All!

I've decided to start the program in 2022. I have been accepted for over a year and finally decided to give it a go now that my FT job is more stable. I'm taking ITS 831 as a starter class.

I am lookingg forward to joining the program!

Been in the program since early August. No complaints! I also work full time + wife/kids and find the classes manageable. So far, there has been a lot of writing but I've found that by printing off the studies from the assignments each week/reading and highlighting them in key areas makes writing the papers much easier.

That's awesome to hear! I know the classes are asynchronous, but it's still unclear to me about the week-to-week content. Should I expect lecture videos or simply some assigned readings and papers to write?

Depends on the professor. Some have had video lectures each week coupled with assigned readings & studies to help the weekly discussions and papers. Others have just had the assigned readings & studies with NO lecture at all. Most of the assigned reading's has been like 1-2 chapters from class book(s) and then 1-5 different studies that correlate to the weekly topic. You'll have to do the typical online "respond to two classmates" in the weekly discussions along with your mandatory post as well.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. Do you have any professors you like? I prefer video lectures if possible alongside the readings/discussions. Do you know of certain professors that do this kind of thing?

    Hey Tekman!

How is the Blockchain specialization working out for you?

It is going great! I would recommend it if you want to learn more about Blockchain without taking any classes in MIT's Courseware Blockchain on the MIT site or YouTube. I am taking the final two specialization courses during Spring 2022. Then I start wrapping up my MBA program at Imperial College London. Then I'll try to pursue full-time at the University of the Cumberlands in Fall 2022.

Awesome to hear! How deep does it go? I'm new to Blockchain, but I have multiple years of engineering and security experience in director roles. I'm hoping to pivot to Blockchain and use my solid technical background to complement Blockchain in the years to come. Would you advise a subject-area novice in Blockchain like myself to pursue it at UC?

Since you are in the director role, a Ph.D. in IT with Blockchain would help to boost your career advancement. The program does not teach you practical much, mostly theory and see where the direction of Blockchain going. Especially, adoption, constraints, Government regulations, industrial use cases, and different types of blockchains and etc. If you just want the knowledge, these 30 hours plus at MIT course teaching Gary Gensler, President Joe Biden's Chairman Security Exchange Commission would enlighten your knowledge in the area.

I just entered 736. The page requirement is now 80 pages for chapter two with 125 references to research published in the last two years. The prof told us that the class pass rate is 20%. I guess the real work starts now.
