2U is mentioned in the article as the online program management partner/platform USC uses.
    1) misrepresenting the online program and equating it to the on-campus program.
    2) targeting minorities and pushing them into "massive" student debt.
Students should really investigate the program before they get started.

2U bought edx as recently as two years ago, they have some issues but still, it's the students responsibility. Do you think their online version and the butt-in-seat content is much different that would lead to a major disadvantage? Yes and No, if the student does well (regardless of the program), it shouldn't be much of a problem, no one is forcing them into debt!

USC seems like a highly ranked private/research institution, 2U might not be a great partner though...

Well, they want prestige. I hope the debt is worth it.

BTW, USC's doctoral regalia is beautiful. I saw a colleague in theirs at last week's commencement. I assume she probably has an Ed.D. or DSW from their... I doubt she actually attended in California.

Unless it's being operated a a separate campus, there's no reason to make distinctions regarding the method one followed to earn a degree. I earned the exact same degree at the University of Leicester as on-campus students did.

Beautiful but expensive; I bought mine instead of renting it for commencement last year.

To the larger topic, at least for my program, 2U was just a behind the scenes thing and almost everything we experienced was primarily with USC staff. Many of us regularly voiced that we didn’t see any advantage of having 2U handle the LMS uploads/updates, thankfully the professors worked around where they needed to, and 2U provided several student support things that many of us didn’t use (people that would call to ask how we were doing).

Yes, that's true of all custom regalia. I paid $1,058 for mine.

Well, most students believe the online program is the same as on campus. They are different regarding collaborations, discussions, and networking. The experiences are so much different compared to the on-campus programs. The school would treat them the same because that is how the business operates. I spent only three weeks at the Imperial College London's MBA program at the ICL campus in London and collaboration with Tel Aviv University in Tel Aviv, Isreal. The experiences were worth every penny of the travel and accommodation costs.

Whether employers treat the online programs as inferior to on-campus programs in terms of employment qualification is a different story. Maybe these students lazy or don't know how to read the they enroll into the program at USC. It does state that 2U provide the platform and supports, while USC teaching and issuing credentials.

Do you wear the regalia of the school you attended even if you work at a dfiferent school? This would make buying the regalia useful if you continue to work in academia and therefore attend numerous graduations/commencements.

Yes, you wear the regalia of your alma mater.

Some wear the generic Ed.D. blue or generic black Ph.D. regalia, either because their school doesn't have custom regalia or they are too cheap, lol :D
