Exactly. They lied about starting a Ph.D. (Well, they told me the truth because they didn't realize it would be out of DETC's scope. Then they lied about it to DETC--despite the fact it had already been (presumably) reviewed and (definitely) approved by PMI.

The DETC was still in the pilot phase regarding non-Ph.D. doctorates, so UMT had to deny it completely, then wait for DETC to open things up. When that happened, UMT offered up its DBA. But it is the Ph.D. that remains on PMI's "accreditation" list.

UMT's explanation to me was that the PMI was a recognized accreditor (it's not), and that would make it okay. Wrong on two counts. First, as I said, PMI wasn't (and isn't) a recognized accreditor. Second, even if it was, accrediting schools offering the Ph.D. is supposed to be beyond DETC's scope (which it still is). But when you're (UMT) that incompetent, what's a little lie to another incompetent (Michael Lambert of DETC)? Well, not fair. Lambert isn't incompetent. But is moral rudder is missing, and not merely for this affair.

I contacted UMT for an explanantion on these issues:

UMT has DETC Accreditation for the DBA program (Doctor of Business Administration).

UMT has PMI Accreditation for its PhD program, but PMI is not an approved accrediting body yet, and UMT is not offering the PhD online at this time even though we could because it is registered with the Commonwealth of Virginia.

UMT does offer a PhD overseas but that is campus based.
