Just received a large (> 16 kg) box stuffed with course materials for the core courses in the University of London external MSc in epidemiology. From my initial examination, I am very impressed with the quality of the materials. Each course came with a subject guide and/or reader plus two or more textbooks. Some courses also came with CDs containing supplemental instructional materials or statistical software. They also sent a handbook, a booklet of assignments to be graded ("marked") by tutors, a booklet of previous exam questions, and a book with suggestions for successful study methods. Each course will also have a discussion group in a web board.

Am looking forward to a busy but enjoyable study year. Thanks to all who shared their opinions and experiences with the UL external program as I was searching for the right DL school for me.

Congrats Alex and good luck on your studies. Please keep us updated on your progress, as I am eyeing the UoL BSc in International Relations and Politics after I finish my USQ award in the Spring.

    Regards,

Sounds wonderful! I wonder what they'll send me for my LLM program?

Alex I am enrolled in the UoL Public Policy and Management Program. I have found the course materials to be detailed and sophisticated.

I have also gotten back two graded assignments (one in each of the two courses in which I am enrolled) and I found the criticisms to be very well taken-- the tutors obviously took some time and gave my work some thought. And unlike my experience in law school, where grades seemed randomly distributed, so far there has been a connection between effort and outcome.

The assignments themselves have been challenging but doable. But not to be taken lightly.

While I think I would prefer a little more of the "online" experience, so far I have been very satisfied with the academic aspects of UoL.

    HELLO there...!

HELLO there Mssr. Alex and dgtucker--

I'm wondering if either of you can give those of us with an interest--perhaps merely a kibuttzing one at that!--in the progress of your respective studies via University of London?

    How goes it?
    How has the trek gone?
What have you had for interaction with UofL?
    With fellow students?

    All the best!

I have been very happy with my studies in the epidemiology program. The web board discussion is an excellent way for interacting with students and tutors, and good feedback was provided for assignments. Unfortunately, I fell behind for a variety of reasons and was not able to complete all of the courses for which I had registered. However, I did take the exams for two of my courses last month. The exams were rigorous but fair; I am now waiting for the results. Summer is officially a break time from this program, but I am taking the opportunity to catch up on my own.

I look forward to continuing with the M.Sc. program in epidemiology and would highly recommend it to others.

I just saw your post about the LLM program you are pursuing at UofL. How's that coming along? I'm thinking of sending in my application. Any information would be appreciated.

    BRAVO Alex!

Bravo, Alex! Keep on keeping on....and thanks for the brief evaluation--it's encouragment for all of us future UofL distance learners.

In fact, besides noting that the internal board helps, perhaps you'll have further insights into the DL self-dicipline challenge as you move along....

Best wishes for your exam results!

Congratulations on your commencement of studies with U of L.

I'm glad to see others like myself pursuing degrees through this school. I agree that the course materials are well written and I like the fact that some of the textbooks are included. Its also very convenient that I can write exams in the town where I live!

I highly recommend U of L to anyone pursuing a degree by DL.

The best of luck to you in your studies & future exams!
