Pearson's first distance involvement was with Heriot-Watt University's MBA. When my wife and I became involved, it was in the Pitman division of Pearson, appropriate because Pitman (the shorthand thing) is said to be the world's first mail-order company. On the day the first postage stamps ever went on sale, there was Isaac Pitman on line, buying stamps to mail out flyers on his shorthand course.
