I thought this as well but they are still listed by Chea..which still makes them legit.

On their front page they still say CHEA recognized accreditor.

No, CHEA is a private association and in this case not all that relevant.

ACICS's problems are due to recognition being rescinded by the Department of Education through NACIQI. This is a death blow for them because that recognition (not CHEA's) is what determines whether an accreditor's schools are eligible to participate in the Title IV federal financial aid system.

I get what you are saying and you are correct. But if you recall at one time you were justifying Swiss Management Phd because they had an accreditor that was CHEA recognized. I know they lose funding but are they illegitimate now? Do the government approval for funds make them legit? or does CHEA?

Look at what I wrote again. I'm not dismissing CHEA at all, I'm saying that they are not all that relevant in this case, because what will kill ACICS is the lack of ability for their schools to participate in Title IV and that's not CHEA's bailiwick. Put simply, it doesn't matter how legitimate you are if you're out of business, and that's probably what's about to happen to ACICS.

Besides, what I've actually said all along is that accreditation doesn't confer legitimacy, it's merely independent validation of it.

Even if ACICS remains recognized by CHEA, and even if ACICS continued accrediting doctoral programs, ACICS accreditation wouldn't help WISR. That's because the California "up-or-out" law that requires state-approved schools to become accredited, defines 'accredited' as accredited by an accreditor recognized by the US Dept. of Education.

    https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=EDC&sectionNum=94813.

I'm still hoping that the Trump administration's new Secretary of Education can be prevailed on to reverse the Obama administration's determination to kill ACICS and indirectly, the hundreds of valuable vocational schools it accredits.

ACICS has a unique niche and fulfills a function that will be difficult for any other existing accreditor to reproduce.

Ok, yes I agree with you on that. I wonder if they would still exist as an accreditor with just CHEA? That's no small thing to say the least. Most state just require that a school have a CHEA recognized accreditor. Most DEAC school accept no title V funds.
