Too many online adjuncts?

I bet the academic market will always be tight. My guess is that people with an otherwise strong resume will get the most benefit from a doctorate. The days of riding to the top on academic credentials alone are probably history in most fields. Maybe one change is that a doctorate is often more suitable to older students with a background instead of 20-somethings who've never left academia.

It is indeed risky, the topic of your dissertation and publications play a big factor in this. Nowadays there are plenty of faculty positions for IS security but if you start your doctorate in this field by the time you graduate the demand might not be longer there.

This is my quandary. I'm hoping for more (cheaper) DL options in the next year.

It's a matter of what you want to do with it. If you want to go into full-time academia, then a DL degree is not quite worthless, but almost. A few have pulled off the transition, but not many. In the business world, it's far from useless. Most people I've encountered in my 30 years of experience in the business world could care less if your degree is DL or B&M. They see that you have your degree and that's all they care about. So a DL degree is just as useful as a B&M in that context.

Regis is an online school, isn't it?

    No.

Regis University is a brick and morter college in Denver that happens to have a strong selection of distance learning offerings.

I can agree more with you. In the business context, it is all about results and little about brand names for your education. For the same reason, I would think that a CPA or other business certification can be of more value to business than the Dr title.

You are probably right, depending on what your career goals are. You have almost got to just want a doctorate. That's where I'm at.
