I love it. Especially this from the article:

    4. Myth: "Online courses are less challenging. This is simply not true. Accredited distance learning institutions offer a wide variety of undergraduate programs - including bachelor's degrees in healthcare administration, software engineering and web development - that require discipline and hard work. You will be expected to keep up with the same course material as students who attend on-campus classes, and you must do so without constant reminders from an instructor. Online education provides a great deal of flexibility in when and where your do your coursework, but it places the responsibility for success squarely upon your shoulders."

Regarding the quoted material from SurfDoctor ("without constant reminders from an instructor"), did anyone find that B&M professors ever hassled them about submitting work? In my experience (undergrad degree at a B&M state university), it was up to the individual student. The professors, for the most part, never badgered students about work!

That was my experience in residence at Washington State University. Other than reminding us of due dates for upcoming assignments, most professors hardly cared if you turned stuff in.

Exactly the same with my B&M undergrad degree. If you don't turn something in, you don't hear a word from the professor, you just have a very disappointing grade at the end of the class. However, I have had some B&M professors give a little reminder to the class when a particular assignment was due in a few days. "Remember that your paper is due on Friday."

I, of course, also received occasional reminders about general due dates, but personal reminders were nonexistent!

With distance education, you rarely find professors that give personal reminders. Many of them are just too busy! I've found that if you reach out to your professors throughout the semester, you are sometimes able to build a relationship with them. It is a hit or miss though - I have tried with several professors but, they just aren't interested. Can be frustrating!

I found that I have historically developed a better relationship with many of my online professors than I ever did at any B&M institutions I have attended. Cal State Long Beach was especially impersonal, where classes were huge and professors were usually not interested in personal interaction.

Every one of your posts so far have been anti-DL and provocative.

Exactly what is your purpose in being here?
