Is this even worth writing am article on? Given the turmoil with striking staff, election battles based on freezing or abolishing tuition fees and the general issue that as a country we are in a political and social mess, the fittest university campuses? Then again it's The Tab.....And we do need a laugh over here at the minute!

Sorry for the delay, the realities of life intervening.

The UK is currently in the midst of one if the most polarised and depressing general elections we have had in my lifetime. On the one hand we have Boris Johnson and the Conservative Party, who academia is generally scathing of as they expect private funding to prop up the universities, not the State. As a result university jobs are changing to have more temporary contracts, part time roles, senior staff having to lecture more, boards balancing books as opposed to running huge deficits (the Open University is a fine example of this..). The result has been massive striking over pensions and employment conditions, which angers students. Who are more left wing and inclined to protest, but not when it affects them.
The other side, Jeremy Corbyn and Labour are proposing to spend an amount of money that has been described as impossible to find in order to fund huge public spending, including wiping out tuition fees for all. But not for those like myself with outstanding debt. Such behaviour is just waiting for the unions to call more strikes when they can't afford to meet the demands made on Government byte proposed renationalisation of many sectors.

Where do I stand? No idea!

Blackberry? Really? So with all that going on (and lets not neglect all that stuff about Prince Andrew) you'd think the idea of "fitness" in a university would be of paramount concern. After all, there will be even more competition for those vanishing pounds.
