The Case for Dropping Out of College

    LOL. I'm sure this guy has heard of credit-by-exam because he tested out of lower level courses. But, he obviously hasn't heard of upper level exams and competency-based degree programs. Oh, and most online courses don't require you to attend lectures.

    His argument that college, especially Fordham, is excessively expensive, is neither new nor radical. The idea that you can learn things without being enrolled in a course is as old as libraries. That higher education is in need of reform is something that has been discussed here, and elsewhere, for many years. So . . . no big deal. I'd also have to say that while some people might do well outside of college, the majority of people need some version of the structure, the guidance, and even the socialization. To my mind, the author did not make a compelling case for dropping out even if he did a decent job of describing some of the shortcomings of the traditional elements of the higher education system.
