TESC Evaluation Question

This question is for all the TESC experts out there. My wife received her TESC academic evaluation this weekend for a BSBA in HR/Org Mgt. We were thinking she'd have 4 more courses to complete to finish up her BSBA at TESC(1 Social Sciences, 1 Natural Science/Math, Business Policy, and either Org Theory or Org Development & Change). Those 4 courses appeared on her evaluation as incomplete, however TESC also indicated that she needs to complete Business Finance and Business in Society/International Mgt. My wife completed BUS 101-Business and Society at a community college and recently finished BA 3600-Corporate Finance at Indiana Tech and we thought both of those classes would meet the Business Finance and Business in Society/International Mgt section in the BSBA degree plan.

Do you have to be enrolled before speaking with anyone at TESC about a review of the original academic evaluation? According to TESC, they have BUS 101-Business and Society from the CC as being equivalent to BUS 101-Introduction to Business at TESC. I would think the argument could be made that the CC class should easily meet the Business in Society/International Mgt requirement based on the course title alone. Also, BA 3600-Corporate Finance from Indiana Tech is listed as equivalent to FIN 311 at TESC, however this also looks like it should easily equate to the Business Finance requirement.

Has anyone ever been successful working with TESC to get their credits moved into another category after their initial academic evaluation or is it written in stone?

I have enough credits for an AAS in Emergency Management from TESC and toyed with the idea of paying the fees to officially have it awarded. I did pay the $75 application fee to make sure I had it complete before I made my decision. For some reason, they told me I needed additional coursework to meet the core requirements even though my FEMA credits should have worked. I called them and they straightened it out and redid my initial evaluation without having paid all the other actual enrollment fees.

I'd say give them a call and tell them that you'd really like to enroll but you need to be 100% sure what you need to complete. I'm sure they'll work with you to accept those courses or tell you why they won't before your wife enrolls.

    bazonkers,

That's what we were talking about earlier today in regard to just calling TESC and inquiring about the two courses in question. The BA 3600-Corporate Finance course is listed as a business elective and we're hoping it can be counted instead as meeting the requirement for Business Finance under the business core section. I even looked up the course description in an Indiana Tech catalog and it pretty much matches up with the DSST Principles of Finance test which TESC accepts for their Business Finance requirement in the BSBA degree plan. If TESC is willing to count BA 3600 for their Business Finance requirement then my wife can see about moving MNGT 130-Customer Service from the free electives area to replace BA 3600 under the business electives block.

The only problem I see with the BUS 101-Business and Society course is that TESC has it in the "Other Courses" section and that area looks like it is all the courses not being used/accepted in the BSBA degree plan. I'm curious what TESC will say about counting that course in order to fill the Business in Society/Int'l Mgt requirement within the business core section. I guess my wife will have to call this week and check on those two classes before we get her enrolled at TESC.

TESC does shift titles and levels, and you might need to enroll before getting anywhere with them. They have no reason to redo an unofficial eval, no motivation so to speak- so you'll be banging your head.
I had a 200 level course dropped down to 199, which then fell outside my major. (I fought unsuccessfully)

A few things I noticed with TESC, issuing department is everything. (in other words, if it wasn't from the right dept, there is no use)
Also, TESC has a "book" that they use. They wouldn't tell me the name of the book, or who published it, or even where it came from- but "the book" is what they use for credit evaluation. If it's in "the book" one way, your stuck.
Lastly, TESC may or may not award her credit for these 2 classes, you just have to decide if that's a deal breaker.

Thanks for the responses bazonkers and cookderosa. It looks like my wife will be enrolling at TESC in the next few months and we'll tackle the initial academic appeal at that time once she is assigned an advisor. The two courses aren't a deal breaker as she has 11 courses to go at Indiana Tech and only 6 at TESC. I think we'll be able to get the Corporate Finance class to fulfill the Business Finance requirement and if not then it will probably be a DSST test instead.

No problem! I'm glad to hear it won't be a dealbreaker. I've taken that DSST exam and it isn't that difficult. Hopefully they'll accept those credits where she needs them but the exam should be an easy alternative.
