suspected cartel gunmen coming across the U.S. southern border in Texas toting body armor and rifles

The three men were spotted on Saturday evening by cameras in the Fronton area and were seen carrying rifles and wearing body armor as they move through the brush.
Border Patrol agents, including the agency’s BORTAC tactical unit, were deployed to the area but found nothing. It is the same area where law enforcement arrested five suspected members of the Northeast Cartel in June.
The latest incident came just days after Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) drone operators in Eagle Pass spotted an armed smuggler in Eagle Pass carrying a long gun and guiding a group of illegal immigrants across the Rio Grande.

In that instance the man made it back to Mexico, authorities said.

Fronton, TX is a heavy cartel area with significant drug smuggling. Border Patrol sources tell me armed gunmen are frequently encountered there. This was another group of suspected cartel gunmen who were arrested there in June.

If the border were insecure there would be no detection or arrest so I'm not sure what's being implied here.

Don't assume these guys are cartelistas. They can also be home grown militia members.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said he would use "whatever force we need to" — including drone strikes — to take out Mexican drug cartels, if he is elected president.

At a campaign stop in Iowa on Thursday, a voter asked the 2024 GOP hopeful whether he would be willing to use drones and military force against drug smugglers and human traffickers wreaking havoc at the southern border.

"Yes, I've already said that we will," DeSantis answered. "We will lean in against the drug cartels. We will absolutely reserve a right — if they're invading our country and killing our people — we have a right to defend this country."

I've met so called militia members. I've seen cartelistas. No terrorists.

Oh! Unless you consider these "militiamen" as terrorists? I could buy into that.

Who ever they are, they are breaking the law and may pose real danger.

Not sure about that either. Dressing up in camouflage and Kevlar and carrying an assault rifle on public land is probably legal in Texas. It would be here in New Mexico and was in Arizona last time I checked.

As to posing a real danger, yes, there I agree with you.

With how Texas is lately, dressing in camouflage and carrying an assault rifle may be legally required of all patriotic citizens when in public. :D

As a former JAG lawyer DeSantis already knows he has no authority to do that. Trump also backed away from defining cartels terrorists in 2019. It's just saber rattling for small minds who want to see people they don't like killed extrajudicially instead of tackling the roots of the problem.

Exactly. And it's extremely dismaying to find there's such a huge number of small minds that buy into barbarism as a "problem-solver." Not just the US. We have them too.

The only people who truly want to tackle the root of that problem are the ones calling for an end to drug prohibition.
