"Seven local councilors from St. Petersburg’s Smolninskoye municipality who called on the Russian parliament to prosecute Russian dictator VladimirPutin for treason have been summoned to the police, Russian independent media outlet Mediazona reported on Sept. 9.

The appeal to the State Duma concerned Russia’s failed invasion of Ukraine.

According to the document, the war is costing Russia its “combat-effective army units,” while “young working-age citizens” are dying, further exacerbating the country’s economic problems."

More than 30 Russian municipal deputies have signed a petition calling for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s resignation.

The petition, posted by Xenia Torstrem, a deputy in St. Petersburg’s Semyonovsky District, was originally signed by 19 officials.

“We, the municipal deputies of Russia, believe that the actions of President Vladimir Putin harm the future of Russia and its citizens,” a translation of the petition reads. “We demand the resignation of Vladimir Putin from the post of President of the Russian Federation!”

The petition comes as the Ukrainian military pursues a counteroffensive, quickly reclaiming territory and pushing Russian troops back to the northeastern border in some places."

Pretty brave people, who signed on to that. I admire them. I'm sure they know they could "disappear." I sincerely hope they don't. Sadly, I shudder to think who's next up, even if they prevail against "Putz." The only thing worse than a Western "basket of deplorables" is a Russian basket of 'em. And they have lots, ready and waiting for succession. Vlad's been grooming his posse for decades.

Many Russians are "Put-in" or placed in police custody due to the fact they're asking Putin to resign. Several people have been high profile civil servants too, they're just "displaying" their discontent with what Putin is trying to do. This is great! All the power to them! Hopefully something comes of this, but most likely "Putin" and his gang is just going to squash them as if nothing ever happened...

And then what? I've been puzzling about what an off ramp or end game might look like for Russia. I don't see any way out other than to negotiate a cease fire and withdraw Russian troops from Ukraine including Crimea. Then there's the issue of restitution. No Russian politician can look at doing these things and hope to have a subsequent career. Or maybe even a subsequent life.

"Squash" as in "make disappear permanently." And yes, "as if nothing ever happened." If so, we'll all know it DID happen. And if it does, (and I hope it doesn't) NOBODY, Russian or otherwise, should ever forget. I shudder to think of this man's legacy. That is a continuing nightmare, that will likely persist long after his death.
