Anyone with any first hand experience with St. Ambrose's DBA?
Well it took me a while to get around to it but I took a quick peek at this program and, unless I missed it, this is not a DL/online program. All the courses are butt-in-seat courses held on campus in Iowa. So . . . it's a little outside the scope of most of our collective experience.
St. Ambrose University - Davenport, Iowa Quad Cities
Yes I know but unlike most other options, it is a DBA with classes held in evening. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I'm on a consulting assignment close to that area these days. Still it is like 80-90 miles from where I work but I thought I can drive once/twice a week to attend a 6-9 class if it is worth taking that drive.
I was at Omaha and Bellevue offers a weekend only Phd. I've no interest in Human Capital (don't know why they are still persisting with the degree) otherwise I would have taken the chance. But I guess for a DBA/Phd with evening/weekend held classes, I can target even moving to that area.
Born and raised in the Quad Cities!
Honestly, outside of Davenport, who knows about St Ambrose? It is also exceptionally pricey at $1000/cr+. I guess I'm missing the draw? The only advantage of doing this degree online is that you could avoid driving into Davenport, but since they don't offer it online...... meh
I guess I'm just left wondering, what is it about this program that would make it worth that much money, drive time, etc?
Ok let me put it another way with some history, I started my online only MS few years ago then I quit after completing just one course, after few months I resumed with another university, found that quite similar, completed another course and left again. After another year I took a chance with a university that was just a few miles from my office and I took one in class, one online course option each quarter and I was done in 12 months, so trying to emulate the same.
So its not about just St. Ambrose, if some one can refer me any other similar option in Iowa/Nebraska for a similar DBA, where there can be an option of some evening/weekend held classes? I am sure am not the only one left in planet with this tendency as I found some similar stories while completing my MS.
Hope that clarifies the mud
So you're in the WESTern side by Nebraska, or the EASTern side by Illinois? St. Ambrose is by Illinois- a lot more than 90 miles from Nebraska.
There is a graduate center IN the Quad Cities that houses satellite facilities for many colleges, might be worth looking into. http://gradcenter.org/Program-Search.aspx
Edit to add- if you're closer to Iowa City, I'm sure Univerity of Iowa has a zillion face to face programs.
Thanks for sharing the link, that is informative really, I'll dig more into it.
I doubt at University of Iowa I can find a part time doctoral degree, now keeping computer science/management science as options, you wont find anything similar to St. Ambrose, i guess that answers my question
I work at Cedar Rapids but travel every weekend to Nebraska, but assuming if I start something at St. Ambrose, I can move my family here for next 2 years.
I'm sure you're right. The only thing is, this is a distance learning website and we don't pay too much attention to the butt-in-seat variety of education.
There can't be that many universities within driving distance. You cam probably scope them all out in an afternoon.
All the best! I'm sure you'll find a great program.
Hats off to this site, folks at DI made me realize that I can study and though there were some hiccups about my personal exp with distance only MS, still the credit goes to DI solely that I completed a US Masters and even looking for a doctoral in near future.
You guys are simply amazing
