I've got an M Div (ATS), and working on a Master's In Counseling with license. Wondering about spiritual direction. Please no scolding or lecturing on wanting brevity in a program like this. I realize that this is an important discipline but I want the fundamentals to combine with other disciplines. Any ideas on the middle groun between a Udemy Class and a 2 year program?
Non-degree programs in spiritual direction or spiritual formation seem to be popping up at more degree-granting places, whether grad certificates or serious noncredit programs. Kairos University has a certificate in spiritual direction for $150 a month x 2 years, and/or you could work spiritual direction content into another flexible Kairos program.
Loyola University Chicago has an 18-credit (6 course) certificate in Spiritual Direction. It can be done online or on campus: https://gpem.luc.edu/portal/program?name=spiritualdirectioncertificate $820 x 18 = $14,760 for the cert
Would you be willing to disclose your denominational affiliation or theological persuasion? That would inform any helpful recommendation on my part.
Have you found a program you are happy with? I did the 2-Year Ignatian Spiritual Director program at Oblate School of Theology and it was quite good. Students have the choice of doing it as a certificate or for credits applied to an MA in Christian Spirituality.
