I would like to welcome all the prior service and active duty members here on DegreeInfo. I'm sure I speak for many of the veterans here when I say that if any of you have any questions or need some advice, please seek out our veterans here on my board and we'll try to point you in the right direction.

I wouldn't consider myself a "senior member" here on DegreeInfo, but I have been around this forum for a day or two, so PM me if there is anything I can to help. I am a firm believer in supporting our military personnel, as we always tend to take care of our own.

I do want to make a career out of the military, but I'm planning on comissioning one way or another.

I served onboard the USS Essex in Sasebo, Japan for 4 years.
Transferred to Assualt Craft Unit 1 in San Diego, CA for 2 years where I was a LCU Navigator and deployed with the USS Peleliu
and now I'm on Shore Duty closer to home at NSA Panama City where I feel like an overpaid maid and O.B.

 

I am active duty Coast Guard with almost 12 years of service. My rate is an Electronics Technician. I have done 2 land tours and 1 afloat tour plus small segments of training here and there. Honestly the best decision I ever made. The experiences alone are great not to mention they paid for my Associate's Degree and almost my entire Bachelor's Degree with TA. My last 4 classes TA only covered 75%, which is still good in my opinion. Also I was able to transfer my Post 9/11 GI Bill to my wife, she is halfway done with her MSN from Benedictine University. Thank you Uncle Sam for providing me with a career and a means to pay for my wife and I's education.

I've been on Active Duty with the Air Force since 1994 with no retirement plans in the near future. I started out in a medical career field and did a late career shift to aircrew.

 

I know you from AFEF, you and I are stationed on the same rock right now. My username over there is USAFATC2000.

Initiated the PhD at Oblate School of Theology (San Antonio, TX) - left it, as the program did not match my desired research focus as much as I initially anticipated when applying.

Currently pursuing the STM at Nashotah House (Nashotah, WI). Although the Nashotah program is does not require a focus for the STM, my coursework and research focus is Ascetical Theology.

When in New York, I taught for SUNY as an adjunct at their Empire State College.

Final assignment in the Army was as a curriculum developer/writer and instructor at the Army Medical Department Center and School (now Center of Excellence) in the Department of Pastoral Ministry Training. In that position, I wrote and taught the curriculum: Providing a Ministerial Response to Moral Injury

I am the founder and director of Warriors on the Way (501c3). Warriors on the Way is a purpose designed pilgrimage program taking combat veterans on the Camino de Santiago for the sake of PTSD/Moral Injury Healing.

Enlisted on delayed entry in 1976, reported for active duty after high school graduation in 1977 as an MP. Served in Korea (B Btry 2/71st ADA) and Ft Meade MD (526th MP Co). Left active duty in 1980 and went reserve components. Commissioned via ROTC in 1983. Branched Corps of Engineers. Defected to the Air Guard in 1986, and then to the USAFR in 1987 as an SP (now SF). Retired in 2003.

 

Good for you! So many people don't get the point - RPs are COMBATANTS! The RP in my Seabee Battalion was pure 'Rambo,' and an honest to goodness badass. I suffered through two separate waves of knuckleheads announcing themselves conscientious objectors,' then insisting Religious Program Specialist was the only rating for them. Nope! That's not how it works. Go Navy! Go Fleet Marine Force.

 

Hello all,
Started as a scholarship Air Force ROTC cadet, disenrolled sophomore year for having a script for Zyrtec (allergy pills). Switched to the Army ROTC as they didn't care and contracted as a scholarship cadet. Did the GAFB (silver) and a few other things in college. Failed a hearing test the month before I was supposed to graduate and commission as a 70A (healthcare administration) This was in the Obama years and ROTC would not process waivers for any reason.

Ended up going into the Coast Guard part time as a civilian. Currently on my 16th year with them. Several CONUS deployments, nothing overseas (yet).

Also have 20 years as a firefighter-paramedic and EMS Supervisor.

I tip my hat to anyone that was successful in commissioning or enlisting.
